“Fate is like a strange, unpopular restaurant filled with odd little waiters who bring you things you never asked for and don't always like.” ― Lemony Snicket

It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single wizard in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.

Whether this wizard in question is aware of such desire, or even possesses it, is trifle matter. For this truth is so well fixed in the minds of the surrounding families that he is considered as the rightful property of some one or another of their daughters.

As soon as the wizard reaches the age of twenty-four, he is seen to be an eligible bachelor for all the young and unmarried witches of the land. And thus, with great pride, the said witches begin to become all that is beautiful, amiable, and accomplished in the hopes of begin chosen as the lucky bride.

Unfortunately for Draco Malfoy, when he blew out his twenty-four candles, he had no inkling of the fate that was soon to befall him. Which is most possibly why he agreed to attend the Christmas Ball rather than immediately deciding upon seeking refuge under a rock for the rest of his life.
