He's there, propping against you
Sinewy blackness peeling out of alleyways
Billowing beneath tree branches
Scurrying around lamp light
To curl up on your shoulder
The great hawk, fat with darkness
Cuts in with burning talons
Baited breath exhaling
Gleeful shivers and slime
Creeps down the nape of your neck
Melas the watcher with his prey's
Eyes shut, trembling before
The blanched inferno
He sits and screens with milky eyes
Fanged smile, glinting out
Of the black bloated body
He stares at you

I am the end of light
And the beginning of the abyss
I am that which you speak
That no one can hear
The darkest hole of fear
I nest on that edge
And beat my wings down
An icy gale, frosting bare flame
Dare shake off my grasp
When your home is to bury
In my hungry jaw

Melas the devourer
There he squats and pants with joy
His prey so frail from lightning days.
