Last time was the old 'off then on', that usually works
This time the factory reset, all data wiped and lost
Now, with back ups marked, to taste long slept perks
Of whatever might be called life, without the cost
We have already paid, buried in the tear-strewn frost

Memories are short, starved they soon grow weak
What did sunshine taste like? What sound did skies
With us beneath them make? And speak
Again the stories that lit darkness for heavy eyes
A time that none of us should ever recognise

But soon a natural smile will lovingly break
Painted from colours an exhausted love can cast
Emerald buds of hope, stubborn hope, will wake
The reward of a day, my day, in the sun to last
Sown in the dark field of the - for now - forgotten past.
