Chapter Eight

The Doctor had been skeptical of the girl at first, but, she proved to be helpful with facing the Zswud. She knew her way around the home, and had assisted Ian, Barbara, Susan and the Doctor in finding the alien.

Throughout the years the girl had met many different faces of the same man.

Almost ten months after the Zswud incident, a whole year after her parents death, another Doctor walked into Sophie's life. This one had an extremely long scarf, and poofy hair. He talked to Sophie as if he'd known her for decades, like he knew all about her. He had comforted the girl when she felt sad because of her parents. The Doctor had to leave, but, he had left a whole bag of Jelly Babies, and promised he'd see her again.

On her seventh birthday, the Time Lord, sporting a green frock coat, had shown up a gift of a TARDIS key in his hand. He had crouches in front of the girl, his curly hair framing his face, and said, "Don't lose this key, it may just save your life in the future," and then had a winked conspiratorially.

She had turned eight, and once again, a colourful visitor came, this time in a cricket jumper and striped trousers. He brought three friends with him, Nyssa, Tegan, and Adric. He brought her to his TARDIS, and they had went back in time to see some dinosaurs, but, ended up stopping an alien invasion.

Invasions seemed to almost follow Sophie's new friend, almost every time she saw him he had either come from an invasion, or a new one was starting.

On her ninth birthday giant trucks marked UNIT had pulled up to a house near to where Sophie and the girls lived. Soldiers in tactical gear had unloaded from the trucks, while others in lab coats had went to giant tents that were erected on the front lawn. Deborah informed the girls that it was absolutely nothing to worry about, although, Sophie knew better, especially when she saw the Brigadier climb from a car. It wasn't long after that a blue box appeared in the back yard of the care home, not going unnoticed by the UNIT personnel, and a grumpy looking individual stumbled out, his grey hair smoking lightly. Almost immediately after it's appearance, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart strolled over. Sophie had watched from the third story window as the lonely traveller greeted his old friend. She assumed that, with the commotion occuring across the street that he wouldn't visit her that day, but, he still just walked over to the back door, and pulled out his sonic screwdriver. The girl had rushed down the stairs to meet the grumpy Gallifreyan. She had ended up assisting him, and UNIT with the problem, gaining herself a direct line to UNIT HQ and an identification paper if she ever found herself needing it.

She met a very colourful incarnation of him on her tenth birthday. She had been going about her newspaper route, (she had it to teach her responsibility, at least that's what Deborah said.) Apparently the Time Lord was trying to stop a rather nasty Zygon attack. Somehow, the ten year old had been roped in, helping the Doctor, and his companion, Peri Brown, stop them.

When Sophia turned eleven, the Time Lord once again stopped in. He was playing the recorder, and gave her one of her own. He brought a friend with him, Jamie McCrimmon, who Sophie dubbed 'Kilt Boy'.

The day she turned twelve, a very bubbly incarnation of the Doctor showed up, in a tweed jacket, a birthday hat on his floppy hair. In fact, she had woken up that morning to the sound of a party horn near her ear. The Gallifreyan had taken the girl by the hand, and the two had travelled around alot, it took a full week for them to get back to London, given that apparently the Time Lord cannot properly fly his ship.

On her thirteenth birthday, a version of her friend, wearing a velvety coat, and a ruffley shirt came to visit. He brought his assistant, as he described her, Sarah Jane Smith, and a special birthday present. It was a backpack, a very special backpack. Somehow, the Gallifreyan had used science to make it dimensionally-transcendental.

On her fourteenth birthday, the Time Lord showed up absolutely covered in questions marks. It took everything in the teen not to laugh at the Gallifreyan.

When she turned fifteen, a surprise met her. Instead of finding a man, as was the normal for her, she was met with a blonde woman. The woman, and her friends, Yasmin, Ryan, and Graham, all wished her a happy birthday, and the Doctor gifted her something very, very special. She received her very own sonic screwdriver. It was gold in colour, with the accents being the same shade of blue as the Time Lady's TARDIS. "Trust me when I say, this screwdriver is your best friend, don't misplace it, it will save your life!" the Doctor had told her. Sophie had tucked the screwdriver into her backpack in a special pocket which also housed her TARDIS key.

When her sixteenth birthday rolled around, Sophie was ready for a visit from the Oncoming Storm. Well, almost ready. She had woken up that morning to find the grumpy Gallifreyan standing over her bed, his eyebrows looking quite cross. "Doctor?" she had asked once getting over the initial shock of finding someone watching her. "Ah, good your awake," he'd remarked, grabbing her arm, pulling her into his box. He'd taken her to see the dinosaurs, once again. Somehow, they didn't stumble across an alien invasion.

On her seventeenth birthday, the Doctor with the plaid pants and recordor once again showed up. He didn't come with a gift, or to take her on an adventure in his time/space machine. Rather, the two talked. About adventuring, and he had asked her about school and her plans for the future. It was a different experience than she was used to, but found herself enjoying it.

These are just a few of the times Sophie stumbled across the wandering Child of Gallifrey. The two met again and again. Almost every time she met him, he'd have a different friend with him. In fact, she figured she'd met almost everyone who ever travelled with the Doctor.

Throughout her childhood, with the wondering traveller stumbling in and out of her life, there was never a dull moment, but it was hard to keep everything straight. The Gallifreyan shared stories with the girl, ones that weren't spoilers to Sophie. It was hard to keep track of which stories the Time Lord already knew.

Hello Sweeties,
Alright, I'm back, I know this chapter is a bit different than what I've been giving you, and it took me a while to decide just how to do this. The reason I did this quick montage was to show just how close the Doctor and young Sophia Jaclyn McCoy are. Another reason is, I know next to nothing about kids, and I realize I could totally google and do research, but this is honestly easier, and it can be way more accurate. I have to thank mojointhetardis for the help with finally settling on this montage chapter. Thanks for being patient, and I'm so ready, and happy to continue.

TTFN,
