Chapter 8

"Iris?" A voice whispered in my ear.

I grunted and turned the other way, not wanting to be woken up just yet.

"Come on, Iris." the voice whispered again, this time shaking me.

"Whaaat?" I grunted, peeling one eye open.

"Someone's here to see you." Matt said.

"Tell whoever it is to go away until further notice." I mumbled.

"I can't. He says it's important." Matt urged.

I mumbled under my breath as I sat up and stretched about. I was still in the back lounge, where I had fallen asleep last night.

"Where's Jd?" I asked, rubbing my eyes.

"Toby, Joel, and Austin took him to the park about two blocks from here." Matt explained.

I nodded.

"So... who's here?" I asked.

He sighed. "Jack."

I groaned. "Whyyyy?"

There was an awkward cough from the bunk corridor.

"You know, I can hear." Jack's voice called out.

Matt laughed and shook his head as I attempted to hide my embarrassed face.

"I'll be with Alan and Tino if you need anything." Matt announced as he left and Jack walked in.

He smiled at me.

"Nice sex hair." he commented.

I rolled my eyes and combed my hair with my fingers.

He laughed, making me laugh.

"I have to tell you something." he said after a while.

I nodded, gesturing him to continue.

"You had asked me if I still loved you." he said.

My smile dropped but I nodded.

"And now I know... I do, I do still love you and I don't know if I'll ever stop but in the end that doesn't matter. I just want you to be happy." he said.

"I am happy." I murmured. "You and Alex should be happy too."

"I'm happy too." he said.

"And Alex?" I asked.

"I don't know about Alex. I thought he was happy but then... you came back and I don't know." he said.

I sighed. "Promise me you're happy." I said.

He smiled. "I promise."

"Yeah... well, maybe I shouldn't believe all the promises people make to me." I thought out loud.

"What?" he asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing, I'm going to shower."

I quickly stood up, Jack following behind me as I walked to the front lounge.

"I'll see you later?" he questioned, stepping off the bus.

I nodded. "Yeah, sure."

He smiled before leaving and I was left to understand everything on my own.

Jack was willing to forgive me because he still loved me? But Alex couldn't forgive me... Alex didn't love me anymore, in fact, he hated me.

I ran a hand through my hair as I began to let my thoughts wander.

"IRIS!" Toby's voice shrieked from far away, making me jump up.

I ran outside, to see three frightened members of my band staring at me.

"What?" I asked.

Joel walked up to me and frowned, tears filling his eyes.

"... Jd... he... I..." he mumbled.

"What?! What's wrong with him?" I asked in panic.

"There's been an accident." Matt added.

Then and there, my whole world collapsed before my eyes.

I couldn't hear anything else, and my vision was becoming blurry.

I couldn't breath, my anxiety was building up again.

"... accident... hospital... won't make it." were the only words I could catch from Matt's soft voice.

And that only made things worse.

I felt my entire life coming to an end.

I wanted to cry... but I couldn't.

I wanted to yell... but I couldn't.

Instead, I watched as the floor seemed to get closer and closer.

I wanted to die.
