                                                                   "An Assignment"

I walked into seventh hour on Friday and plopped into my desk. I was really tired. I had been up all night the night before. I had to practice for Saturday night. I had finally gotten the gig I wanted. It was gonna pay me five grand. I needed that money.

            “Hey,” I heard.

“Hey,” I said back as I looked over at Noah.

“Are you ok,” he said with worry on his face.

“Yeah. Just tired,” I said. No sooner than I said it did I yawn.

“Did you sleep last night,” he asked.

“Nope,” I said with another yawn.

“Why not,” he asked looking confused.

“I had to practice,” I said as I laid my head on the desk.

            “For what,” he asked.

“You’re full of questions today,” I said with a grin.

“Maybe. Tell me why,” he said smiling back.

“I have a gig coming up at a club that pays big money,” I explained.

“How much,” he asked with a frown.

“Around five grand,” I said thinking about it.

“That’s a lot to get paid just to dance,” he said.

“I’m good at what I do,” I said with a shrug.

“I want to see you dance one day,” he said shyly.

“You want to come Saturday,” I asked.

“Can I,” he asked with wide eyes.

            “Absolutely.”

“Cool. I’ll bring my brothers,” he said with a nod.

“That’s fine. I’ll put the names on the list so you can get in free. Just find my friend Maggie,” I said.

“I don’t even know what she looks like,” he said.

“I’ll show you later,” I said with a laugh. “Did you bring the cookies?”

“Of course I brought the cookies,” he said in a duh tone of voice.

“You don’t have to say it like that,” I said smiling.

“Like what,” he asked with a raised eyebrow.

“Like I’m stupid,” I said with a laugh.
