I knocked first and really wished that he was alone. The girl who talked to Johnny in the hospital seemed like the girl to be Bryan’s girlfriend. And she might be here with him.

So when he answered it, all I see was him surprised. “Good morning.”

“Good morning.” I sighed and asked, “Are you alone?”

He nodded then invited me in. Once I reached his living room, he finally asked that one question I don’t like to answer. “What are you doing here?”

I put down my duffle bag and he stared at it. “I’ll stay over the weekend…to fix this—this—thing. If that’s okay with you and your girlfriend,”

He shrugged. “If you’re referring to Claudia, I’m telling you now; we’re broken up.”

“What? Why?”

Bryan looked at me with dead eyes. “It’s none of your concern.” So I shut up and stayed there, feeling awkward. “What does your boyfriend—”

“Fiancée,” I corrected.

“—have to say about this?”

So I gave him the same response he gave me. “It’s none of your concern.”
