Ingredients
1 pound mild Italian sausage 1 pound lean ground beef 1 large onion, chopped OR ½ tablespoon to 1 tablespoon onion powder (to taste) 2 cloves garlic, minced OR 1 tablespoon to 1 ½ tablespoon garlic powder (to taste) 4 (8-ounce) cans tomato sauce 1 (6-ounce) can Italian-style tomato paste 3 cups water 1/8 cup sugar 1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons salt1 to 1 1/2 teaspoons black pepper1 teaspoon dried parsley 1 teaspoon dried basil 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon ground red pepper 1 Bay Leaf 1 cup sliced fresh mushrooms (Optional)
Instructions:
1. Cook sausage and ground beef in skillet until browned, adding onion and garlic.
2. Combine other ingredients, stirring after each to ensure they are thoroughly mixed.
3. Cook on a low simmer for about 1- 1 ½ hours, stirring occasionally.
4. Enjoy!
(I use one 28 oz can of tomato puree instead of sauce+paste and I don't add in mushrooms)
