For some reason, it ended up raining by the end of the day. As soon as the second to the last period started, the skies turned dark and rain clouds loomed over the city. Water was pouring when the dismissal bell rang and I wasn't prepared to walk in the rain.

I pulled my phone out and tried calling my mom to pick me up. On normal, non-rainy days, I would walk all the way home, which would take me about 15-20 minutes, but the rain was too hard to walk through without a hooded jacket or an umbrella.

The phone rang and rang, but no one picked up. I frowned at the phone as I pulled it off of my head and held it out in front of me. "Why the hell isn't she answering?" I tried dialing again and finally someone answered.

"Jay?" she said. "What's wrong, hon?"

"Mom, it's raining. Can you pick me up?" I asked. I really didn't want to walk home under the rain. Getting wet is one thing, but getting sick is worse. I hate being sick.

"Sorry, Jay. I can't get out of the office right now. Maybe you can take the bus? You have bus fare, right?" she suggested. I clicked my tongue.

"Yeah, but the next bus doesn't come for another thirty minutes," I whined.

"Well, it's either you wait for the next bus, or you try phoning your brother and ask if he can pick you up. I'm sorry, honey," she said. I shook my head even though I knew she wouldn't see it.

"It's okay, mom. I'll try calling him. Bye!" I waited for her to say 'bye' before I hung up the phone. Damn it, I'm sure my brother won't be able to pick me up, but I'll try calling him anyway. It's worth a shot.

I went to my phonebook and tapped on my brother's name. Moments later, it started to ring. It went right to voicemail after seven rings. I grunted angrily as I prepared to dial his number again. I've been waiting outside the school for almost 20 minutes now and no one was giving me hope of getting home dry.

Right before I was able to dial my brother's number, I received a text message.

You called? I'm still in class so I couldn't answer.

I knew it! Ugh. The bus arrives in 10 minutes anyway. I can just wait it out. It beats walking home in the rain and risk getting sick

I remained inside the school building, near the doors. There was nothing to do except to look around at the little posters that was posted by the door. They were all about school events that have already passed. I don't know why nobody ever bothered to take them down.

"Jay!" I heard a voice shout, calling for my attention, as it reverberated throughout the halls. My head looked around for the source of the voice and found Martin jogging in my direction. The frown I had on my face was instantly converted into a bright smile.
