Can your efforts really change the given outcome?

Are my efforts all for nothing?

Is the fact that I try, such a bad thing?

Why is it that everytime I try to help,

Something equally bad happens to me?

This is all defying the rule of Equivalent Exchange. “Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost.” That is Alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange.  Instead I lost so much, to be punished for my efforts.  I just don’t understand.

But even though this happened more than once, I don’t seem to be learning my lesson.  For I try, and try, and try again.  In the end, this is all my fault.  No matter how much I cry, and I try, 3 + 2 will always equal 5.  I can’t changed the outcome, I can only choose to accept it.

So maybe in the end, this really is all my fault.  Should I just give up?  Call this a lost cause?
