Three Little Words

*Grace's POV*

Cameron and I were flirting and holding hands all through dinner and I really hoped Niall wouldn't notice. When we all got back to the bus and Niall hadn't said a word about it I was relived, but there was also a part of me that wished he still was head over heels for me. Suddenly I'm confused about who I want, what I want. My whole life feels like it's been blurry around the edges.

It's weird. One minute I had my whole life planned out. I was planning on playing volleyball and maybe making it to the Olympics. I might have made it, too. But no. I'd let myself get distracted with a boy and I was kicked off the team. He wasn't good for me, the boy. He, Sam, was a "bad boy" or as close as you could get to one in my small boarding school.

Anyway, one minute you can have it all planned out and the next you have no absolute clue. The next you could be on a tour bus snogging a boy you barely know. The thing is, I liked Cam a lot, but I didn't want to get hurt again. At least with Niall I knew he wouldn't hurt me. Cameron was super sweet and a total gentlemen but I'd thought that with Sam at first too. I shook the thought from my head. I couldn't afford to think like this. I just had to let everything take its own course.

"Gracie?" Louis called, running into the kitchen where I was seated, answering questions from Directioners and Adubbers on my Twitter.

"Yes, love?" I sighed, hearing the "I want something" tone in his voice.

"Can you drive me and the boys to the theatre? Niall wants some popcorn and we want to see the newest movie out."

"Uh sure. Why can't one of you drive though?" I asked. Louis gave me a funny look, like I should already know.

"We were up all night practicing vocals and we just played a show. We just don't want to drive. Please Gracie? We can be best friends forever." He said, looking at me with wide eyes, a big, childish grin lighting up his features.

"Oh so we're not bffs already?" I said, filling my voice with fake hurt.

"No we are but we can be even better best friends!" He said.

"Fine." I told him, before grabbing my keys, "I wouldn't trust you boys with my car anyway."

"You're smart." Louis said a mischievous grin on his face. I laughed and all six of us piled into my brand new midnight blue Mustang. It was a tight fit but it worked out well enough. It reminded me of the days when Louis would pick me up from Franklynn Prep, my boarding school, and we'd all pile into his four person car. That was before One Direction blew up.

We arrived at the movie theatre and the boys asked me if I'd like to come along. I declined because I wasn't really in the mood. I drove around the downtown of whatever city of whatever state this was. As I turned a sharp corner, a deer jumped out from the bushes and crashed into my windshield. The car skidded forward and its side was rammed into a light post. My head shot forward, getting cut by the glass that surrounded me completely. I fought to keep my eyes open, afraid that if they shut they'd never open again. I heard sirens in the distance and I prayed they were coming for me. Before my eyes shut I whispered one sentence aloud:

"I never got to say goodbye."

*Cameron's POV*

I got the call an hour after Grace and the 1D boys left for the movies.

"Hello?" I answered, unaware of the life-changing events that were about to occur.

"Is this Mr.Quiseng?"

"Yes. May I ask who's calling?"

"This is Linda Reese from the Saint Gills hospital. We need you to come down here right away. It's concerning Grace Tress. Her friend Louis is down here and he said to call you."

I almost choked on the water I'd been sipping. "Can I speak to Louis please?" I said softly.

"Of course," Linda said and then there was some shuffling on the other end before Louis spoke.

"Hey." He said hoarsely and I could tell he'd been crying.

"What's going on? Why is Grace in the hospital?" I asked frantically.

"She was in a c-car wreck. I-It was a deer." Louis stuttered.

"Oh my gosh. Is she okay?" I asked, feeling tears of my own spilling down my face.

"We don't know yet. Well there is one thing you should know-"

I cut him off. "I'm coming now. Tell me about it when I get there."

"No Cameron listen-"

I hung up before he could say any more. I told Zach, Diane, Brent, Dillon, and Michael what was going on. They all insisted coming along, so we took a taxi down to the hospital.

I ran in the doors way ahead of everyone. I got Grace's room number and burst into the room. She was awake.

"Thank goodness you're okay. I thought you were..." I trailed off when I saw the confused look on her face. "Baby, what's wrong. Are you in pain?" I asked, walking up beside her bed.

"Who are you?"

Those three words changed my life forever.
