one month later - OMNISCENT P.O.V.

After Marilyn's death, Sam and Dean Winchseter moved away from Seattle, going back to Kansas and once again housing in the bunker. Sam broke things off with Charlotte shortly after Marilyn's death, choosing instead to grieve with his big brother Dean. Dean, who was finally starting feeling whole again with Marilyn by his side, was broken, seemingly beyond repair. He was angry all the time- well, when he wasn't a crying mess. Dean allowed his emotions to be shown, and while a month later, he wasn't crying as much or as often, he still did, ocasionally.

The brothers stopped arguing as much, instead, they leaned on each other as they tried to move past her death. They rarely ever spoke about it, but they both knew this death had hit them much harder than previous ones they faced. She wasn't family, but she was the love of Dean's life, and Sam's absolute best friend. No one would ever replace her to either of them.

Not wanting to be in the town where she died, they decided to move back to Kansas, doing what they do best- hunting.

"I don't think this is a good idea, Dean." Sam told Dean on the day Dean told Sam he was going to resume hunting.

"I don't care," Dean replied gruffly. "They killed her because I couldn't kill them. I'm not going to let anyone else feel this way."

It was obvious that she had changed them both. Dean was more openly compassionate, caring more about the people in his life. Sam learned to be more careful with who he trusted.

Neither Dean nor Sam had told the other about what they had taken from her room. They had agreed to leave everything of hers behind, but had snuck into her room and taken some of her belongings.

Sam had taken a bracelet that Jacob had given her a few months before he died. It was something that was much too big for her at the time, but once she had stopped growing had fit her. It was a simple bracelet, with no charms, just black beads surronding one white one. Sam had taken to wearing it everyday, seeing as Marilyn had worn it basically everyday when she was alive.

Dean had taken, or rather, taken back, a jacket she had taken from him during the first month of their relationship. She wore it whenever she was just lounging around the house, or the mornings after. Dean had also taken a necklace, the chain just being a thick black string, the pendant being a small circle, the string going through the center of the circle. Her parents had gotten it for her before she moved out of the house, and to her, it had symbolized that while things change, in the end, everything would end up okay. And at the time, Dean really needed the reminder. He wore it daily, just as Sam did the bracelet.

The Winchester's had seen the objects their brother had taken, but never questioned the other about them.

Just over a month after Marilyn's death, when they were finally settled in the bunker, the problem began. Every night at 1:57 a.m., every clock in the bunker would stop.

After about a week of it, Dean was fed up.

"Are you doing this?" Dean asked Sam one morning.

Sam rubbed his eyes, still not fully awake. "Why would I?"

"I don't know," Dean replied. "That's why I'm asking."

Sam shook his head. "No, I'm not." Sam stayed quite for a few minutes, pouring himself a cup of coffee. When he turned around, Dean was adjusting the time on the clock. Hesitantly, Sam asked, "Do you think it's-"

"Don't say it," Dean inturrupted, setting the clock down. "And besides, there's no way it could be, right? The bunker's protected from ghosts and all that."

"I don't know..." Sam trailed off.

"If it was her, why wouldn't she just talk to us?"

"Maybe she's not strong enough. Or maybe she's mad."

"Mad about what?" She had told Dean she wasn't upset with him at all. Had dying changed her mind?

"We got her put in the hospital. I didn't tell her there was a chance she could die."

Dean sighed. "I don't know, Sam, it doesn't seem likely."

"Let's just try to find out, okay?" Sam asked, a plan forming in his head.

"Okay," Dean nodded. "How?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rather than being in their bedrooms, that night, Sam and Dean stayed up, waiting for 1:57 to come. Two minutes before, Sam loaded his gun, which was filled with rock-salt shells. Dean hesitantly loaded his a minute before.

And then it was 1:57 a.m.

They split up, Dean going upstairs and Sam staying down. Dean looked in every room, waiting to find something out of the ordinary. A minute later, the clocks were still on 1:57. Irritated, he headed downstairs.

He entered the room that he had been in with Sam moments before. Before he could call Sam into the room, he saw her.

She was sat with her back to him, her brown hair swept over one of her shoulders. She was barely there, almost translucent.

But she was there. It was enough.

"Baby?" Dean choked out.

Marilyn turned, smiling at him. "Hi, Dean."

He stepped toward her. "What are you doing here?"

She ignored his question, instead saying, "You need to let me go. You and Sam."

"No, I-"

Dean stepped toward her, ready to embrace the ghost of his dead love. Before he could lean down to wrap his arms around her, a shot went off, and she was gone.

Again.
