Nyarai's POV

Class ran over time that day. I didn't mind one bit though. Cale was everything I thought he would be, kind, a good listener and dedicated. If I thought even for a second that he was doing this just to annoy me I was wrong. Nothing but a sweet hearted listener.

Even though he had wasted the first half of the year he was willing to make up for it. I could see it in his eyes, those rich brown eyes.

The beauties were jealous but there wasn't a thing they could do about it. In fact they actually needed my help more than they would care to admit and way more than they had courage to come ask me. No doubt I might have started a fire but I wasn't going to stop fueling it. It was about time the blonde and beautiful squirmed.

When the bell finally did ring I was almost sad to leave. But as Cale and I walked out together we Zodwa was waiting. And as soon as she saw Cale her face was glowing bright red. I couldn't help but to smile, that might have been my reaction when I saw him first as well. "That's my sister," I told him "she's a little shy."

"She a year seven?" he asked.

"Yep her name is Zodwa."

"Hi," Zowda barely managed before she ducked behind me.

I chuckled a little then turned my attention back to Cale "So study hard tonight, and if you need any help at all give me a message."

"Will do, thanks for your help," Cale waved goodbye and walked off with his books.

Zodwa pressed her face into the back of my arm "Nya he's so cute!"

I smiled "Isn't he just?"

Zowda lingered behind me as I when to my locker which was flanked by my two best friends. Alexis Floyd and Dan Kollen. Both just as bright as myself  they had been my high school friends since day one.

"Good luck for that test tomorrow," Alexis told me as she scribbled something in her school diary.

"Won't need it. I spent the holidays studying," I replied.

"Cocky," Dan to my right was stuffing his bag full of textbooks. He refused to use the online ones so lugged those heavy books around wherever he went.

"Not cocky, confident," I smiled to myself.

"Don't those things go hand in hand?" Dan laughed to himself.

I gave him a friendly shove "Oh ha ha. Since when is this the way you speak to me before a big test that is going to determine my future?"

He shrugged with a smile.

"Hey, what is going on with them?" Alexis asked behind us.

I turned to see the Beauties giving us death stares. Yeah I definitely started a fire, let's hope it doesn't become some kind of petty war.

"I was helping Cale Blackwood out. They're jealous because they haven't been able to touch him and I got super close," I explained.

"Good on you," Alexis smiled and gave me a hi-five.

"Yeah... good on you," Dan seemed kind of down.

Zodwa and I had a long bus ride home but we spent it chatting about Cale. Zodwa after seeing him once had developed quite the crush. The passengers thinned out and before I knew it were were at our stop.

Home wasn't always such a happy place for Zodwa and I.

Mum wasn't around, so that left Dad. I guess he wasn't around that much either. And when he was he was tired and angry. He worked long hard hours and felt that because of this we owed him everything and he was determined to make us pay for what we owed. He wasn't always like this though, when Mum was around we were happy.

But she wasn't anymore and this was our reality.

Zodwa liked to create worlds in her drawings to escape to different worlds where things were "better". Which is well and good for a 13 year old. But me, I wasn't going to escape my reality I was going to dig my way out of it. Become successful off my own hard work.

There was dishes to be washed, laundry to be done and dinner to be cooked. I got started on it all, checking my phone whenever I could for Cale's reply.  It slowed me down but excited me at the same time, giving me that jolt of energy that I needed.

By the time I sat down at my desk to start my study I could feel myself come alive because Cale had sent through his first message.

Even still, I wrote I read but I felt that there was something more. Something out there for me. A greater purpose. That I just need to grasp, something was meant to happen and everything would change. I would be happy and successful. There was this pull of destiny, only thing was I didn't know which way it was pulling me.

But little did I know this sense of destiny I felt and this greater journey I was to start had already started.

Cale was the beginning.

Meow myths,

What are we thinking? Are we liking? I hope so. Even though it's kind boring because it's such early days I'm trying to do the best I can.

So has anyone read any werecat books before? They are the best kind of books of course :P. Prides are just the best.
