"Fantastique, ma chérie! What fun this will be!" Ace snapped his fingers and the crystal ball in front of him burst alive with colorful smoke which cleared as Ace's palm pressed against the top of ball. He dropped his hands to the side of it, grasping my own. Now he looked like an excited little boy. "Once we begin, my assistant and your friend will not be able to enter the room no matter what the circumstance. I will lift the wards up in this room, and neither of us will be allowed to leave until my crystal ball has cleared. Are you ok with this?"

"What if something goes horrible wrong and I can't escape the room?"

            Ace shrugged. "Neither can I."

"Fine," I said, beginning to seriously regret ever walking into that room. "I'm done thinking, just do it. Do your... mind thingy before I change my decision."

Ace bowed his head. He was quiet for a while. All I could hear was the flicker of the candles around us.

"Faith Williams." The warlock's lids burst open, locking onto mine. His irises had morphed from a bold purple to a coal black, and he spoke in a monotonous, dry voice.  "You have been given the Kiss of Death. There are consequences to that. A part of your soul has died, replaced by a part of his immortal one."

            "Then does that make me....?"

"No." I couldn't remember the last time Ace had blinked. It was like he was seeing me, but not really seeing me, like he was looking into a different world and interpreting it for me. "You are not immortal, ma chérie. You are still human."

This was getting really freaky. "And where... is the part of my soul that died off?"

"It lives in Purgatory, unable to move to heaven or the earthly realm. It is tormented, unable to reach out to you. The connection between your world and theirs is too weak..." Ace shut his eyes tightly, wincing a little. "We will now look into the future. Your future."

The liquid inside of the crystal ball swirled around until it was the color of obsidian.

"What does that mean?" I leaned in closer towards the crystal, heart thumping in my chest. "The crystal...it's black...?

            That's never good."

"Implausible..." Ace's voice was now bottomless and distant. "According to my crystal, ma chérie, you do not have a visible future. Your fate is unclear--" Abruptly, Ace's eyes burst into a brilliant white light and his hands grasped mine tighter. "Thy kingdom come...Thy kingdom will come..." Now spoke rapidly, sightless eyes shifting back and forth as if he was seeing images. Shutting his right eye, Ace let go of my hand  and lifted his right hand upwards, palm facing me, and to my utter horror, his right eye appeared at the center of his palm, wide flickering with white sparks of lightening. "Thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Vice and virtue, Lust, and Chastity, Gluttony and Temperance, Greed and Charity, Sloth and Diligence, Wrath and Patience, Envy and Kindness, Pride and Humility. Blood. Blood. Blood... Born from a woman with a pure soul, The Angel of Death will rise once more..."

Panic struck me hard. I tried to pull away from his iron grasp, but the warlock was too strong. I struggled to breathe.

The eye on his palm blinked, then disappeared all together, and Ace grabbed onto me with both hands again. The table between us shook violently and the candles flickered. A roar of wind howled in the air, whipping our hair and clothes in every direction, throwing objects around the room..
