Chapter 5: Like We Used to

Not a few days after graduation, came the time of year the girls looked forward to the whole year–the Graduation Ball.

It’s very much different from Prom, since the Ball was exclusive to us Seniors only. Of course, most people just came with their Prom dates, but there were some whose dates were from other years, like me for example. But just like every other mother, Mom was ecstatic for me. Personally, I didn’t give a damn about dances, but it was going to be my last few weeks with her, and I wanted it to be special for her. I wanted her to be happy.

“Alex!” Mom cried once I went down the stairs wearing my tuxedo. She was sobbing hysterically, and I couldn’t help but smile shyly.

“You’re growing up so fast!” She wailed so loudly, I was sure the neighbours heard her screams. “It feels like it was only yesterday I was carrying the infant version of you, while you were sucking on my boobs!”

I laughed and wrapped her into a tight embrace. “Mom, that was too much information, don’t you think?”

She wiped her eyes. “Yes, of course.”She laughed sadly, and let me go. “I just wish your father was here to see this.”

“Mom.” I kissed her head. “We’ll visit him tomorrow, okay?”

“Okay.” She smiled, putting her hands around me once more. “Take care later, and come back home.”

“Okay, Mom.” I walked to the door, smiling at her one last time that afternoon. “I love you!”

Since I left the house three hours earlier than I was supposed to, I drove to Cain’s house. He might be the boyfriend of the girl I lov– ehm, I meant the girl who used to be my best friend, he was still one of my closest friends. He did grow up with us. I rang the doorbell, and the door swung open. But I was surprised when it wasn’t Cain who opened it, but Calypso.

“Alex?” She asked. “Hi.”

I smiled. “Hey, Calypso.” I greeted. “Is Cain there?”

“Yeah, he is.” She frowned. “He’s with Savannah.”

I nodded while she walked with me to the sofas. She was beautiful, to be completely honest. Her dress matched her hazel eyes, and it’s rare to find someone pull off a dress that’s not in popping colors. Her dress was strapless, and her hair was in a braid. I didn’t know what type of braid, nor did I care. (It’s a fishtail okay?)

“What brings you here?” She asked me.

I shrugged. “I’m friends with Cain too, remember?”

Calypso laughed. “Damn, you really fucked up.”

I didn’t know what she was talking about particularly, but I knew it was true. “I know.” I agreed.

“Hey, Calypso, can you...” Savannah’s voice faltered as she went down the stairs and saw me. “Oh... Hi, Alex.”

I couldn’t help but smirk. Her hair was a rat’s nest, and that’s what people call sex hair. She was wearing a two piece dress (I think). The top part was like a tank top, but it was fitted and showed off a few inches from her stomach before. What shocked me wasn’t the fact that it was unzipped and showed her black bra. (Well, maybe a bit.) But it was the fact that it was in pink. The skirt was orange, but you get me right?

“Did you have sex or something?” I asked with a smirk.

Savannah’s face turned bright red. “Goddamn it, Alex, no!”
