There's Still a Chance

“Mr Carter?”

My secretary Alice poked her small head around my office door

“Yes Alice?”

“Mr Matthews is here to see you, I told him you didn’t want any visitors but he insisted-“

“Alice send him up” I quickly interrupted

“Yes sir” she quietly whispered

She quickly scurried away and in a matter of moments her small frame was replaced by a taller and larger one

“Darren” I stood up and smiled. He gripped my hand securely as we shook them.  “Feels like I haven’t seen you in ages”

He chuckled “It’s only been like what? Two weeks? “

I shrugged laughing “Still feels long, How’s Miami?”

“Going well” he sighed as we both sat down. He rose a brow and shot me a knowing look

“You know I can’t believe it” he smiled softly

“Believe it”

“How long has it been?”

My gaze casted downwards

“Three years, 5 months, 23 days”

“That’s not even normal Erick”

I let out a sad chuckle “I know”

“You’re supposed to be moving on, you chose this life”

“Did I?”

Darren nodded “Yes”

“It was for the best right? I mean it had to be done?”

“I have to see this for my own eyes; I wish I could have come sooner”

“It’s only been four days since I called you”

“Well we’re here now”

I raised a brow “We? You brought you’re annoying boyfriend?”

“I tried to leave him in Miami but he wanted to see this famous Maxwell Evans” he chuckled

“Oh yeah you told him everything huh?”

“Honesty is the way forward brother”

I scoffed “it doesn’t even matter now he’s not going to forgive me”

“I forgave you, you never know...”

“Know what?”

“There could still be a chance”
