"I'm sorry, Stefan," I apologised gravely. "But I can't do this anymore."

Stefan looked up at me from where he sat in a chair and rose an eyebrow.

"Do what?" he asked.

Realisation hit him when I held up the object in my hand.

"I can't take this anymore. I'm sorry, but we're over. Mefan's over."

Stefan sighed and put the book he was reading down. He leant forward and clasped his hands together.

"I can change," he insisted.

"Can you? This is the third time this week, Stefan! How can I trust you?"

"I promise, it won't happen again!"

"I thought we were closer than that!" I cried. "We were supposed to have an epic bromance!"

"We do!"

"Then why, in God's name Stefan, did you eat the last cookie?" I asked, heartbroken.

"Marni, I'm sorry. I'll buy you some more."

"Nup!" I held my hand out. "Not good enough!"

"I know," he sighed. "Which is why... I saved you one."

I looked up to see him holding a cookie out. I grinned and stole it out of his hand, sitting in the seat next to him.

We were silent for a moment.

"We need to get out of the house more," I commented.

"We do."

I ate my cookie and sighed.

"We need to get a TV or-"

I cut off, hearing footsteps outside. Stefan and I both shot up in an instant, on high alert. We made eye contact and I motioned for us to go upstairs. He nodded and we moved silently.

I peeked outside and saw a man looking around the area. I recognised him vaguely. He was a hybrid.

"Hey!" I called, stepping outside.

The hybrid spun and bared his fangs at me.

"Relax," I glared. "I'm here because Klaus sent me."

"Oh? And who are you?"

"His sister," I answered. "So I suggest you put those fangs away."

His face went back to normal.

"Are you here for the coffins?" I asked.

"Yeah. I saw Stefan Salvatore come this way about an hour ago." He looked at the house. "My guess is he has the coffins hidden in there."

"Have you told Klaus yet?" I asked.

"No. I was going to make sure first."

"Good," I smiled just as Stefan appeared behind him and shoved his hand inside him, pulling out his heart. The hybrid gasped before falling to the ground. I made a face. "That's the fourth one this week. We've got to be more careful."

"We need to have a back up plan," Stefan said, flicking the blood off his hand. "Sooner or later, Klaus is going to find out we're here. If that happens we need another place we can hide the coffins."

"Perhaps a human's home?" I suggested.

"No, because if Klaus kills the owner, he can get in.

I sighed. "It's times like these that I wish I hadn't invited him into the boarding house..."
