As I pass each room in the hospital, I wonder to myself:
'Were you in this room? Or perhaps, that room.
Were you sick like this ward? Or sick like that ward.
Did you suffer like this one? Or were you as peaceful as that one. '
And I can't help but wish that we were there earlier - to at least wish you farewell.
'I was coming, and you were waiting.
But your time was up, and you couldn't stay'
So you left, before either of us had the chance to say,
"Farewell."
And so, I write this message, to at least farewell you, even though you are not there to hear it.
"Fare thee well."
