Chapter Five

"Are you still leaving next week?" Malungkot na tanong ni Cassandra kay Anton. They were in the same hill, nakaupo at nakasandal si Anton sa isang malaking puno ng mangga, nakasandal naman siya dito. The relationship was more than a week old and all the past days where full of so much love, contentment and happiness. Kung noon bilang magkaibigan ay madalas silang magkasama, lalo silang naging mas malapit sa isa't isa ngayon. They were not only girlfriend-boyfriend, they were also very good friends. At tulad ng mga nakalipas na mga araw ay sa burol nila hinihintay ang paglubog ng araw. Welcoming the dusk and very thankful for one day had passed that they were still with each other and expecting a new, much brighter life the next day.

"Don't be too sad, Cassie." Anton is gently massaging her hand that's giving her a relaxing feeling.

"But you would be away," naramdaman niya ang pamumuo ng mga luha, buti na lang at nakatalikod siya sa binata. She can't bear the thought that they won't see each other everyday. Besides sa babalik na sa maynila ang lalaki para sa naiwang business nito ay matatapos na rin ang summer vacation niya. "I would be back in school."

Narinig niya ang mahinang pagtawa ng binata. Naiinis siyang tumayo at niyuko ito. "There's nothing funny, Mr. Santillan!"

Tumatawang tiningala siya ng binata. "Ang taray mo naman! Meron ka ba?"

Inirapan niya ito. "You wouldn't pass for being a comedian!"

"Who say I want to be one, baby?" Hinila siya nito kaya napaluhod siya sa dito.

"Anton..." angal niya.

Anton gently touched her cheeks. "Don't worry too much, ok. I'll call, I'll text kahit minuto-minuto or kahit segundo-segundo pa," he joked. He doesn't want to entertain her sadness, siya din ay nahihirapan sa isiping hindi na niya makikita at makakasama araw-araw ang babae. "Besides, I'll be here every weekend."

"But I'll miss you," himutok ni Cassandra na parang bata.

"Me too, but I need to look at the business. Nagkakaroon ng fluctuation sa supply ng gasoline sa market kaya kailangan kong umattend sa mga meeting ng transport group." He explained.

Lumabi si Cassie. "You have your assistant, you can supervise that even you're here. Apparently, you need to study running life in countryside. Your mother's here, I am here, why don't you stay here?"

"I'm already doing something on that, but there is something that I'm personally needed. Please Cassie, don't be too sad para hindi ako mahawa. I want us to enjoy those days na magkasama pa tayo maghapon. I promise that I'll always call and be here every weekend." He promised.

"Uhm..." Umismid si Cassandra. "Promise?"

Anton grinned. "I almost forgot that I have a girlfriend that's still a baby."

"Anton!"

"It's a joke," banayad nitong hinaplos ang pisngi niya at sumeryoso. "I love you so much, Cassandra, count on that. Hindi mababawasan iyon sa magiging hindi natin pagkikita araw-araw. If only it's possible, I want to marry you." He continued searching her face.

Cassandra smiled instinctively. "Then let's get married!"

"Oh, no!" Naitaas ni Anton ang dalawang kamay.

Tinapik niya ito sa braso. "OA ka naman, as if pipikutin ka! What I mean is pakasal kaya tayo dito with our own little ways. I read it somewhere, ikinasal ang mga sarili nila, gayahin natin."

Anton stared at her, amused. "Hindi ka lang maganda, Cassie, baby, you're also intelligent."

"Sus, bolahin pa daw ako! C'mon," tumayo siya at hinila ito patayo at sumunod naman ang binata.
