Chapter 1: The Discussion

The mere presence of those two causes everyone to sigh in admiration towards them. I know they are good looking and are in the top 3 of the school but come on! They're not celebrities. The only people that weren't drooling over them were Alec, Brianna and me which we were having a normal conversation and catching up on the past two years. We were actually being ignorant of their presence and not being desperate for their attention like everyone else. Nathan was in the front row (predictable) and Zach was on the last row (predictable...not so much). After about 3 minutes, everyone got on their seats and the professor started writing our topic on the board. Today's topic sparked an interest in me because it had to do with the academy's history of the royal bloodline and it had to do with their way of government.

Monarchy or Democracy?

"Good morning everyone, I hope everyone had a great summer but now it's time to go back in time with the local history of the royal family. Let me introduce myself really quickly. I'm Professor Darmouth but you can all call me by my first name, which is James. Now, can someone explain the definition of both terms? How about one of two of our new students? Alexander? Can you answer the question?" The professor said and Alec stood up and addressed himself in front of all of the students

"Of course. In my opinion, monarchy is the type of rule in which the ruler would have all the power for themselves. Their rule would be based on their beliefs, ambitions and nothing more. All of the decisions of the kingdom and villages would be made by them and based on their self-interest and not for the people's well being. A democracy, on the other hand, would indeed be a kind of rule in which the ruler would base government decision based on the people's well being. Their government would be by the people, for the people and with the people. Their government would be with the beliefs of fairness and justice and not absolute power for themselves" Alec said and the professor nodded in agreement

"Excellent definition on both terms. Now that the definitions are explained, let's start on the topic of today. In your opinion, was the rule of the Magnate Kingdom a monarchy or a democracy? How about we begin with your opinion, Nathaniel, since you are top of the class?" The professor pointed towards Nathan with admiration. I rolled my eyes at his clear favoritism towards Nathan

"With pleasure, James" Nathan said and stood up his chair and went to the podium on the other side of the classroom with his superior attitude. Predictable.

"In my opinion, why would you ask such a question when it is clearly obvious. There is no way that the Magnate Kingdom ever ruled in a democratic way. They always ruled as a monarchy and nothing else. Why, would you ask? It is because all of their decisions were based on themselves. They might have helped citizens as it was stated in the history books but when it came to the moment of danger, they put their lives above the other people. That demonstrates what kind of rulers they really were, absolute rulers seeking power for themselves. They never cared for their citizens because all they did was find their weakness and take advantage of it to expand their kingdom. No question should be asked of whether it was a democracy or a monarchy since no such kingdom has ruled in a complete democratic way. Although they would deny it, they would always seek a bit of superiority above all" Nathan said with a firm tone as if he was absolutely right

"Does everyone agree with what he just said? If someone is against his opinion please speak up" the professor said and everyone nodded in agreement with what Nathan just said. He had an expression of approval towards everyone in the classroom. I don't know what came over me because next thing I knew, I had my hand raised in the air. Everyone stared at me with disbelief, shock but the only different expressions were admiration by Brianna and Alec
