Reunion

No one's POV

It is dawn. Aragorn, Legolas, and Gimli are running trying to catch up to the Uruk-hai.  "A red sun rises, blood has been spilt this night" Legolas tells the other two.The sound of horses is heard and the three of them hide as a large cavalry appears. Aragorn comes out of hiding as they pass, Legolas and Gimli behind him.

"Riders of Rohan! What news from the Mark?" Aragorn asks. At a signal from Èomer, the riders make a quick turn and head towards the three companions, encircling them. As they stop, they point their spears at them.

"What business does an elf, a man and a dwarf have in the Riddermark?" Èomer asks the trio. Meanwhile somewhere in the crowd Serena began to stir on the horse she was on. "Speak quickly" Èomer tells them.

"Give me your name, horse-master, and I shall give you mine" Gimli tells him. Èomer gets off his horse as Aragorn puts a hand on Gimli's shoulder. Serena opens her eyes smelling the air and smells her Ada.

"I would cut off your head — dwarf — if it stood but a little higher from the ground" Èomer states. Legolas quickly aims an arrow at Èomer as Serena jumps off the horse she was on. She runs through the horses and tackles Aragorn barking happily wagging her tail.

"Serena! I'm glad you're ok" Aragorn says smiling as Legolas and Gimli look at them amused. Legolas had lowered his bow and returned his arrow to his quiver. "Get off girl, you're to big to be doing this" Aragorn tells her and she hopes off him letting him stand. She stands at his side as Aragorn faces Èomer again.

'Ada they save Merry, Pippin and I from Uruk-hai' Serena tells him & he nods his head.

"I'm Aragorn, son of Arathorn, This is Gimli, son of Glóin, and Legolas, from the Woodland realm" Aragorn introduces them. "You have already meet Serena the spirit wolf" he adds and she bows her head. "We are friends of Rohan and of Théoden, your king" he states.

"Théoden no longer recognizes friend from foe" Èomer tells them. He removes his helmet as the riders withdraw their spears. "Not even his own kin" Èomer states. "Saruman has poisoned the mind of the king and claimed lordship over this land. My company are those loyal to Rohan. And for that, we are banished. The White Wizard is cunning. He walks here and there they say, as an old man, hooded and cloaked.And everywhere his spies slip past our nets" he finishes explaining looking at Legolas.

'They are no spies and have tracked the band of Uruk-hai westward across the plains. They had taken me and two of our friends captive' Serena explains for all to hear.

"The Uruks are destroyed, we slaughtered them during the night" Èomer states.

"But there were two hobbits, did you see two hobbits with them?" Gimli asks.

"They would be small, only children to your eyes" Aragorn explains.

"We left none alive" Èomer tells the pair.

'They are alive, I saw them flee the battle' Serena tells her companions and they sigh in relief.

"We piled the carcasses and burned them" Èomer explains pointing to the smoke. "I am sorry" he tells them before whistling. "Hasufel! Arod!" he calls and two horses appear. "May these horses bear you to better fortune than the former masters, farewell" Èomer says mounting his horse. Look for your friends, but do not trust the hope. It has forsaken these lands. We ride north!" he tells the company before they leave. 

Aragorn mounts Hasufel while Gimli and Legolas mount Arod. Serena leads them to the pile of burning corpses. She ignores it and goes to where she last saw the hobbits and Aragorn follows her. "A Hobbit lay here, and the other" he says looking at the tracks. He sees the broken chain and makes no comment. "They crawled hands bound and the bonds were cut" he states looking at the cut rope.

'They run and were followed' Serena adds Aragorn nods his head.

"The tracks lead away from the battle! Into... Fangorn Forest" Aragorn finishes. The four look up into a very dense forest.

"Fangorn! What madness drove them in there?" Gimli asks.

'They were defenseless in this battle and I told them to run. I tried to follow them but a horse blocked my way. I called an uruk trying to kill Èomer and passed out. Next thing I know I'm with you three' Serena explains. 'Follow me and don't fall behind' she tells them as she enters the forest.
