Waking up and Attack

The Uruk-hai are marching, carrying Merry and Pippin on their backs while one carried Serena in their arms. It has been three days since they were captured. Both Merry and Serena are still unconscious while Pippin is awake. Who tried to wake his friends by calling their names, but they did not stir. Soon a group of Orcs appear and Grishnakh says "you're late, our master grows impatient. He wants the Shire-rats and spirit wolf now."

"I don't take orders from Orc-maggots, Saruman will have his prizes. We will deliver them"the lead Uruk Mauhúr assures the orc. He was the one holding Serena and he puts her down as an orc clips a chain to her collar. Pippin looks at Merry who looks sick.

"Serena! Merry! Wake up! My friend is sick! He needs water. Please!" he tells the uruks and orcs.

"Sick is he? Give him some medicine, boys!" Mauhur tells the uruks. The uruks growl, then one pours a sticky red liquid into Merry's mouth.

"Stop it!" Pippin yells distressed and Serena hears as she wakes. When she sees what is happening she tackles the uruk away from Merry before the orc could grab her leash. She growls at uruks and orcs as they surround her. Mauhur grabs her lead and pulls her away from her friends.

"Leave her alone!" Pippin shouts.

"Why? You want some draught like your friend? Huh?" Mauhur asks pointing to Merry and Pippin remains quite. "Then keep your mouth shut" he snarls and pulls Serena making her walk as they continue their journey to Isengard. But Serena fights all the way trying to get free and back to the hobbits. "Behave wolf or they'll suffer" Mauhur tells her and she calms down.

"Hello, Pip" Merry mumbles as Pippin looks at him.

"You're hurt" Pippin says looking at the gush on Merry's head.

"I'm fine, it was just an act" Merry assures him.

"An act?" Pippin asks.

"See? I fooled you too. Don't worry about me, Pippin" Merry tells him. One of the big orcs sniffs the air as does Serena. She smells Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli and knows they are coming for them. But the orc only smells man flesh.

"What is it? What do you smell?" Mauhur asks the orc.

"Man-flesh" Uglúk replies. Serena hears Pippin whisper Aragorn's name and smiles. Her ada was coming for them.

"They've picked up our trail! Let's go!" Mauhur orders and they pick up their pace marching on as Mauhur pulls Serena. Pippin tears his elven brooch off his cloak with his teeth, and drops it onto the ground.

(Nightfall)

"We ain't goin' no further 'till we've had a breather!" Uruk states. Mauhur sighs and puts the chain down before sticking a spike through it. Uglúk tells the others to get a fire going as the hobbits are put down near the wolf. Pippin crawls over toward Merry while Serena got as close to them as the chain allowed.

"I think we might have made a mistake, leaving the Shire, Pippin" Merry states.

'Don't think that way, there is still hope' Serena assures them. As the orcs chop at the trees, low groans and rumbles come from the forest.

"What's making that noise?" Pippin asks.

"It's the trees" Merry tells him and Serena nods her head.

"What?" Pippin asks confused.

'the Old Forest, on the borders of Buckland. Folks used to say that there was something in the water that made the trees grow tall, and come alive' Serena explains.

"Alive?" Pippin asks in awe.

"Trees that could whisper, talk to each other. Even move" Merry explains.

"I'm starving. We ain't had nothing but maggoty bread for three stinking days!" an uruk grumbles. Speak for yourself Serena, Merry and Pippin haven't had anything to eat or drink in three days.

"Yeah! Why can't we have some meat?" an orc named Snaga asks. The orc rests his eyes on the hobbits which makes Serena growl."What about them? They're fresh" Snaga states making Serena growl louder.

"They are not for eating!"Uglúk tells the orcs.

"What about their legs? They don't need those. Ooh! They look tasty" Grishnakh says stepping towards the hobbits. Serena tries to snap at him but the muzzle prevents it.

"Get back, scum! The prisoners go to Saruman. Alive and unspoiled" Uglúk tells Grishnakh.

"Alive? Why alive? Do they give good sport? What about the wolf?" Grishnakh asks.

"The hobbits have something, an Elvish weapon. The master wants it for the war along with the wolf" Uglúk explains.

'They think you have the Ring' Serena tells the hobbits. 'If they find out we don't, you're dead. So be quiet' she tells them.

"Just a mouthful, a bit off the flank" Snaga says from behind the hobbits. Uglúk cuts off Snaga's head before he can hurt the hobbits.

"Looks like meat's back on the menu, boys!" Uglúk announces. The Uruk-hai pile on the dead orc and Serena tries to get the chain off.

"Pippin unchain, let's go!" Merry tells him and Pippin crawls over to Serena. But Pippin is caught by Grishnák who snarls at him. Serena fights harder to get the chain off as Grishnák closes in on Pippin. A spear suddenly pierces the orc's back, riders burst out and attack the orcs & uruks.

'Get out of here both of you! Into the forest now!' Serena yells into their heads. Suddenly Pippin turns and looks up at a pair of thrashing hooves bearing down on him. He screams as Serena finally broke free of the chain and pushed Pippin out of the way of the hooves. 'Run!' she shouts and they run for it after cutting their bonds.

Before she could follow one of the riders blocks her way and she snarls. But sees Mauhur sneaking up behind the rider and jumps over the rider tackling him to the ground. She may not be able to bite, but her claws are just as deadly as she tears uruk leader apart. Then she turns to the rider and he bows his head in thanks which she returns before blacking out. The lack of food, water and all the exercise finally to much for her to handle.

The riders slaughtered all the remaining orcs and uruks. The leader hops off his horse and kneels before the wolf that had protected him. "What do we do with it?" he's second in command asks.

"She saved my life, let's remove this muzzle and take her with us" Eomer instructs. He gets a dagger and cuts the muzzle off before placing the she wolf on a horse. "Watch over her" he tells his second in command who nods his head. "Burn the bodies, we ride north!" he tells the company once back on his horse. Once the bodies were burning they set off on their way again with the wolf in tow.
