14: The Formal Process

"What makes you think I won't like it?" I asked him. I liked everything about him, even things I couldn't comprehend fully didn't make me doubt or fear him. "Didn't you say you were going to be able to explain all of this," I reminded him by tracing my finger over his arm and observing the tingles in his arm.

"I am... but it's difficult for me to explain to you, knowing your human perspective, that you were literally made for me," he said shortly as he wrapped his arm around my waist and pulled me into his arms. "You're my mate, Rose. Do you know what that means?" he asked.

I remembered reading about it in fantasy books when I was younger, but I had dismissed it all as being fake because at the time I thought it truly was just fantasy. "Not really," I admitted softly.

"Mates are two wolves that belong together, they were created to work together, love each other, and make each other stronger. They complete each other and allow each other to become their full potentials. It's not taken lightly at all in the werewolf world, in fact it's a huge deal. But when mates meet for the first time, typically they both know that they've just found their mate, but with us it was different. I knew that you were mine, but because you're a human, you only knew that you were attracted to me. Maybe you felt some sort of connection, but it wasn't obvious to you what was happening. Sapphire pulled us out that day because she wasn't sure how I would respond; the bond between an alpha and his luna, or in our case two who are destined to be alpha and luna, is typically much stronger than two normal mates. That's why you could feel it so much as well, even though you don't have a wolf inside you telling you what's going on," he laughed.

"Wait, you have a wolf inside you that talks to you?" I asked. "Why haven't you told me that? What does it even say?"

"Because honestly I knew that you would ask me what he says, but really he is just another part of me" he laughed as I looked up at him. My questioning look prompted him to continue. "He mostly wants you, like all of you, all the time," Zander admitted with a smile.

"Why? I'm a human, what can you gain from me?" I honestly wanted to know. It didn't make any sense that someone so powerful would want me with that level of intensity.

"Rose, please don't think that way," he pleaded with me as he ran his hand over my legs that were draped over his. "You're my human. You complete me in a way that no wolf or other human could ever be capable of," he assured me.

"So your wolf wants that completeness of being with me?" I asked him curiously.

"Yes," he responded with a smirk. "But my wolf wants to be completed by you in a different way than when I told you about how well we would complement each other and bring out each other's potential," he said as his hands shifted and started moving up and down on the backs of my thighs. "He has a tendency to think with less complexity than me and pays no mind to appropriate vs. inappropriate or any kind of timeline," he started chuckling to me as I began to realize what he was saying. "So when I said he wants all of you, like all the time... I meant that," he confessed. When I heard him speak with such transparency I couldn't contain my smile.

"Oh," I looked up at him, "I see. Your wolf makes you feel that way, so then what's my excuse?" I teased as I turned my body to face him with my legs on either side of his waist. He closed his eyes and smiled.

"Rose, you can't do that," he said as he picked me up and moved me further away from him in his lap so my back was against the dash.

"Oh so it's all talk then?" I joked as I ran my fingers through my hair.

He smiled at me and pulled me close to him, lifting my legs so that they were laid over his lap again like they were when we started this conversation. "First of all, it's not just my wolf  who wants you, he just makes it a lot harder to resist you," he said and I felt the blush fill my cheeks. "Second of all, I need to teach you about the mating process and the steps I have to follow as an alpha so you can be my luna," he said with a smile.
