My first EVER MelloxMatt. Well, it's really my first time writing anything like this... O_o

Aw, man, I feel awkward T_T You see? Too much of a newbie.

Well... putting myself out of my comfort zone is good, I guess?

Matt glanced over at Mello for the fifth time in the past three minutes. He didn't intend to, but he still did it, then scolded himself for doing so as it had gotten him killed on Super Mario Bros twice.

Well, that wasn't the only reason he scolded himself after looking. It was mostly because the redhead had had taken a liking to his best friend a little more than he should have. He'd never told Mello about it, because he was afraid of looking stupid and getting knocked back.

He also hated the fact that he was such a coward. Every time Matt had come close to telling the blonde his feelings, something would always interrupt him, causing him to stutter and mumble that he'd forgotten what he was going to say.

Over on the other side of the room, something had been bothering Mello for quite a while, and he was getting to the point where he wouldn't stop himself from yelling loudly at his odd friend. "Matt, what the hell is wrong with you? You keep looking at me."

Matt flushed a deep shade of red, which thankfully couldn't be seen in the dim light. "You have something in your hair," he lied smoothly.

"What is it?" Mello asked, bringing his hand up to comb his fingers through his hair.

"S'gone. Looked like a piece of paper," he muttered, staring down at his game console again.

The two sat in silence for a few more minutes. Matt was the only one aware of the slight awkwardness in the silence, as Mello was too absorbed in studying the book on his desk.

That was all Mello ever did, and it was starting to worry Matt. Recently, he had become obsessed with beating that weird kid in the number one spot on the list.

It enraged Mello that someone who never studied could obtain the top spot so easily. He often took his anger out on Matt, who just sat quietly and took it, not wanting to anger him any more.

Matt sighed quietly, then sat up. "Mello, you've been studying for the past three and a half hours."

"Has it been that long? I didn't notice," he replied tiredly after a few seconds.

"Say that with a little more enthusiasm, then maybe I'll believe you."

"Matt, I'm fine," Mello insisted.

"You don't look fine."

"Just... let me finish this book, okay?!"

"Nope." Matt stood up and pulled the book from the desk.

"Hey!"

"Go. To. Sleep."

"No."

"Yes."

"Why do you care?"

"'Cause I like you," he responded. Just as Mello's eyes widened, he covered it up hastily with, "You're my friend."

"I don't care." He snatched the book back and opened it to the page he was on.

"Well I do!" Matt took the book back from his hands. "This isn't good for your health, you should be intelligent enough to know that!"

"Not intelligent enough, apparently," he muttered darkly.

"No! Don't you go into one of your sulking marathons again! That's all you ever do, whenever anybody makes the slightest hints towards you being incompetent!"
