Patrick

It's the middle of October and there's still no negotiation. Not even close to coming to a deal. A bunch of the guys are back in the KHL and other hockey leagues trying to stay and shape. I can't help but feel like I should be too, but I can't leave Chicago right now. There's so much for me here that is making it impossible to leave. I can't leave. Elizabeth and her band are getting so close to finishing their EP I can feel it. They were doing a bunch of promos and stuff so I should stay preoccupied, and today they were even going to sing one of the songs off the album at the Bulls game. At least the United Center is getting some action.

We arrive early enough that I can take her around the place and it can also subside my itch to be back here. I take her down the familiar paths into our little locker room. It's not much to look at and it's a little rinky dink but it was home to me.

"This is my stall. Right in between Duncan Keith and Jonathan Toews" I smile.

"Do you miss it" she asks sitting in my stall. Her crazy hair nearly going from wall to wall in this little room.

"More than anything. But I stand by my decision to stay here. I'm sure they'll get something figured out" I say.

"I watch the news Patrick... I know everything isn't going well" she says and I let out a sigh. I sit next to her and he starts to rub my leg.

"It's really hard, you know? Knowing that this is our fault and we can't even do anything about it anymore. I honestly don't even care about getting paid, I just want to play. That's what I'm here to do. And I love watching you live out your dreams but I can't help but feel like I should too" I admit.

"You should, and it sucks you aren't" she says lacing her fingers through mine. She rests her head on my shoulder and I rest my head on hers.

"This sucks" I say.

"It does, but sometimes the hardest decision is the best decision" she says softly.

"What does that mean" I ask.

"Lets not worry about it right now. I heard Derrick Rose is in the boxes, we should go find him" she says and I laugh. We run up to the boxes and find him with a huge knee brace on watching warm ups. I walk over and pat him on the back and he lights up when he sees me.

"Patrick my man, long time no see" he says pulling me into a hug.

"It's been too long, how have you been" I ask pointing to his leg. He had just torn his ACL and was still going to be out for a while.

"Getting there. I guess we're both out of work right now" he jokes.

"Yeah, I guess so" I laugh. I introduce him to Elizabeth and she nearly falls over. We talk for a little bit but the game was about to start so we needed to find our seats.

"So you know who he was but you didn't know who I was" I laugh sitting down with the most extravagant nachos on earth. Thank god I play here and not eat because this shit I expensive.

"I knew of you, I just didn't put two and two together. Basketball is a sport where you only need one really good player, and it was him" she shrugs. We eat our food and watch the majority of the first half before heading down to rehearse. I listen to them do vocal warm ups and get ready to perform. They didn't even look nervous but his place was packed and a lot of people were excited to see them.

"You ready" I ask Lizzie.

"Yeah, how do I look" she asks giving me a cheesy grin. She was such a goofball. She was wearing a Rose jersey that went down to her knees and black leggings. She looked wonderful.
