My friend, Aya once experienced this when she visited her friend who live in 12th floor in an apartment.
She obviously didn't want to use stairs to go up to the 12th floor so she had used the elevator. When she got in, no one was there in the elevator.
Suddenly the door opened on the 2nd floor but there was no person. She thought it was some kid playing a prank. But again it stopped on 3rd floor and there was no person either. The elevator then kept on stopping at each floor but there was no one in sight at each floor.
Just when it reached on the 12th floor, Aya was terrified when she heard a siren. The siren notified that elevator was being over weight.
