[59] – Notes
They spent the next week
In her apartment
Sitting in uncomfortable silence
Sipping tea from blue cups.
Her brother watched reruns
On her old fuzzy TV
While the boy and the girl
Slipped notes to each other
Under the coffee table.
“I want to get away.”
The girl wrote.
“I thought you were away?”
The boy wrote in reply.
“Maybe not enough.
It seems to me that what I was
Getting away from
Has caught up to me.”
The girl scribbled.
“Promise you’ll stay
For me?”
The boy scribbled in reply.
The girl didn’t write back.
