Part 25

Calista’s POV

“Where are we going?” I pestered. Evan simply chuckled as he continued to drag me along to our new training destination. Yes, new. After I had learned how to harness my energy, he decided that I was ready to start learning how to use it.

“Ouch! Gosh darn it Evan! Where are we!” I yelled out as him as I stumbled over a rock and tumbled to the ground. As I did, the blindfold that had been wrapped over my eyes slipped off and I sat up to find myself on top of a hill of some sort that was covered in leaves and trees. As my eyes focused, I gasped and quickly sat up.

“I’m leaving,” I mumbled as I span around and tried to escape while I still could.

“What? Why?!”

“Just look at it! It’s practically a home for psycho murderers!” I yelled, motioning towards the hulking forest a few feet ahead of us. It was desolate and dark with noises slipping around every corner like ghosts. Every corner looks like a graveyard and a single leaf falling onto the grass sounded like the footsteps of a killer. A never-ending maze or terror, and there would be no way out until either morning came or I was brutally murdered.

“Aw come on you baby. Cant you just feel nature calling your name?”

“The only thing calling my name is impending death if I take even one step near that human eating forest.”

“Well it’s a good thing you’re not human then.”

I shot him a stern look and turned on my heel, taking a few steps away from him.

“You’re gonna get lost. You had a blindfold on, you never know where we could be,” he called. I continued walking as I shouted over my shoulder,

“Well it can’t be that far from home. It only took us a few minutes to get here.”

In a flash of wind, Evan was in front of me, a sly grin spread on his face as he leaned over me.

“How do you know how far we are? I could have just used that,” he whispered. His breath tickling my ear and sending a series of shivers down my spine.

“I…I don’t know about you, but I don’t wanna die young,” I whispered, then winced when I realize how whiny I sounded. Evan simply laughed and threw an arm over my shoulder, pulling me in so that my head was crushed against his chest.

“Don’t worry. I’ll protect you,” he whispered.

Even though I knew he was joking around, I was suddenly very grateful that my head was pressed out of sight as my face suddenly flushed a deep crimson. Suddenly, he released me and rushed ahead leaving me feeling cold.

“Come on!”

“What’s up with you? You’re like a little kid snorting sugar,” I huffed, suddenly grumpy at my abandonment. Wait? Am I hearing myself?

“I dunno, I guess I just like the forest. Come on!” he persisted again, holding his hand out for me to grab. I was shocked for as second before I smiled and entwined my fingers with his. Holding on for dear life as we entered the forest.

Evan’s POV

“Again!”

Calista groaned, throwing her hands over her eyes and flopping back onto a pile of fallen leaves.

“Noo! I don’ wanna!” she cried out, whining like a child. For some reason, I felt the corners of my mouth turn up when I heard her whining. I’m not quite sure why, but a lot of things about Calista I haven’t been sure of lately. Surprisingly, while walking to our training spot, she stayed quite the entire time, despite her outburst earlier about psycho killers. Pfft, yeah right. Most killers were just demons looking to have some fun on a Friday night.
