Part 20

Evan’s POV

Imagine opening the front door of your best friends house. Desperately rushing to meet someone, only to come face to face with them as soon as you fling open the door. And to make matters worse, they say that you ‘need to talk’. What could you possibly say in this situation? The first thing that comes to your mind:

“Whaa? Wait…whaa?”

Yeah, real smooth dude.

But why would I want to be smooth to her anyway?

Maybe because then it’s easier to monopolize her.

Calista stared seriously at me for a while and I took the time to regain my composure.

“We need to talk. Can I come in?”

“Oh, yeah. Sure I guess.”

I flung myself to the side and motioned for her to enter, but then stopped as I realized something. Calista walked into my chest and jumped back in shock, her face reddening slightly before she looked up at me angrily.

“Wait. Actually you can’t come in. This is Logan’s house. He has a…lady friend staying over, so we’ll need to go to either my place or yours. Personally, I would prefer your-”

“Let’s go to your place.”

I was about to protest, but her grim expression told me that no good would come out of it. So I simply shrugged and ran a hand through my hair before leading her off in the direction of Deliah’s house. At least I knew she wouldn’t be home. But her essence still stunk up every corner of the room. Just thinking about it sent a shiver down my spine.

“Hey, are you okay?”

Unknowingly, my pace had slowed to almost a halt. I quickly returned to my usual pace and cleared my throat.

“Yeah. ‘Course. Well come on. It’s not too far from here.”

“Oh. That’s good then.”

That was enough, I decided that it was time for me to gain control of the situation again. To get the ball back in my court.

“Well as we’re walking, what do you need to talk to me about?”

“The truth.”

Her lack of response peeved me and suddenly I couldn’t let it go.

“No chiz Sherlock. But what do you mean?”

“I…let’s talk about this at your house.”

Although I was still slightly annoyed, I decided to agree and regain control of the situation when we reached my house. As if on cue, we arrived. It’s obviously expensive appearance brought a gasp to Calista and a groan to me.

The lawn was perfectly manicured as usual and a long winding staircase led up to the modern door. The outside of the house was a pale blue that contrasted greatly with the rest of the homes here, but matched perfectly with our huge walkout windows. All in all, the house reeked ‘wealthy’ and I had to crinkle my nose in distaste.

Calista simply stared at it, her mouth hanging open slightly and her eyes wide. A smirk crept onto my face as I could tell her defenses were down,

“This is just a little rusty. It hasn’t been redone in a while. Man, it looks so horrible. At least my room is better.”

“Seriously!?”

“Nope. Why? Are you into rich guys?”

“Wh-What? I…I don’t…the wealth doesn’t…it… I…marriage is for love, not money I…”
