Christmas in your house was loud; what, with your four sisters and one brother screaming like children as they chased each other around the house, getting tangled in tinsel and Christmas lights, – even though they were supposed to be decorating the Christmas tree, which was supposed to be up weeks ago –, and blasted carols at the neighbours that they didn’t like. Your younger cousins were over too, and your aunts and uncles – in fact, all of your relatives were over, talking and laughing at stories that they told each other, as they caught up with the people they hadn’t spoken to in a long while.
You loved Christmas; more than you loved anything. You loved the carols, and the lights, and decorating the house, and the Christmas spirit and whatnot. You loved the look in your younger sisters’ eyes as they tore open presents and listened to stories about Father Christmas visiting houses. You loved the smell of gingerbread and cookies, as your mother baked batch after batch of holiday treats.
But, mostly, you loved having your family over, and sitting down at dinner to eat with them, and talking to the people you loved most.
Christmas was the one time of the year where the whole family came together and, for once in your life, nobody was missing from it.
Not your grandparents - who lived hours away -, or your cousins - who you never really got to see -, and not even your brother - who was always away on tour, some thousand miles away, in a place you hadn’t even heard of.
“It was quiet around here, while you were gone.” You admit to Louis, as he wraps tinsel around the Christmas tree.
He grins, “Must have been dreadfully boring then.”
“It was.”
He chuckles, before continuing to decorate the tree, and you watch for a while in silence, as he hangs little bells and baubles and hums the tune to Christmas carols under his breath.
“I missed you, you know.” You tell him, after a moment or two, watching as he lifts his younger sister up, so that she can put the star on top of the tree.
Louis puts her down, seeing that she had placed the bright, gold star on the tree, before turning to look at you. “I missed you too, even if you are a little annoying sometimes.”
Louis ruffles your hair and grins, before running away as you chase him, screaming at him for ruining your hair.
