CHAPTER THIRTY FIVE - VOWS

Erick’s POV

Waiting anxiously for Melanie’s response, I found myself sweating uncontrollably.  She was taking far longer than I had expected to answer.  To which I decided that no matter what her decision was, I was going to respect it.  I knew that we barely knew each other and that marriage was not a decision to be taken quickly.

Worried but confident that she would make the right decision, I watched her kneel down before me.  Our eyes leveled, before she began to cry.  “Yes! Yes. I’ll marry you.” she finally answered smiling.

Pulling her in for a quick kiss, I was instantly reminded of two teenagers in love.  They way they smiled and giggled every time they pulled away for air.

“Okay you two.  Enough.” Armand stated playfully, acting out his role as guardian.

“I love you.”  Melanie stated hugging me tight as I struggled to get us both off the ground.

“I love you too.”  I said kissing her forehead.  “Lets get marry right now.” I offered, looking at Armand.

“Right now?  Are you crazy?” Melanie asked giggling, not taking my seriously.

    “Why not?”  I asked concerned.

    “Because….”

“I’m waiting.” I pressed, placing my hand under her chin and making her face me.

“Well, umm... For starters, we are not dressed appropriately, we don’t have any witnesses here present and their isn’t even a priest here…”

“We are Immortals.  We don’t have priest.”

“Then how do you guys get married?” Melanie asked shocked.

“Like most mortals, we use a judge.  Our ceremonies are short and to the point.”

“You mean to tell me, that my dream of walking down the aisle is never going to happen?” Melanie asked completely heartbroken.

“Is that what you want?  A ceremony were others could see us profess our love to each other?  Is it not enough that I love you and you love me.  God will be our witness.”

“Don’t say it like that.” Melanie said, taking my hand off her chin.

“Melanie, I don’t care who see us marry.  All I want is to marry you as soon as possible.”  I said pulling her back to me.  “If you want a church wedding, then that’s what you get.  All I want is for us to be happy.  Together.”  I said pulling her in for a kiss.

Melanie’s POV

Looking into the eyes of Erick, I knew that he spoke the truth.  He loved me and would do anything to please me.  Even wait to make him his.

I just didn’t have it in me to wait anymore.  Hadn’t I not waited enough.

“Okay.  Lets do it right now.” I said, smiling at the happiness in Erick’s eyes.

“There’s only one problem.” Armand stated, interrupting us.

“Even Immortal laws stated, their must be at least a witness to a marriage.  I could either be a witness, or I can marry you off.  Can’t be both.”

For an agonizing few minutes, we just stared at each other.

“I’ll marry you.” a familiar voice said coming from behind some trees.
