Chapter Fifteen Disasterology

Auggie's POV

It's been three weeks since the crash. We're all ok. I had to go back to school two weeks ago, but since I'm deaf in both ears it's gotten harder to follow along in my classes. My grades are dropping fast. And it's not like I'm in every class with either Lyla or one of my brothers to tell me the stuff I don't catch. So here I am on a Tuesday during my fourth period class in the principles office with Xander and Eli. Not 'cause I'm in trouble or 'cause I got in a fight, but because of how I can't hear anything anymore. The principle even hired an interpreter for our meeting today. The monkey starts talking and I know exactly what he's saying 'cause I can still read lips well. He says "Auggie we've noticed for the last two weeks that you're having more difficulty hearing and keeping up on your school work than you did before."

I don't even look at the interpreter. I just say "He's not necissary, just 'cause I'm fully deaf doesn't mean I've suddenly lost the ability to read lips."

"We just wanted to make things a little easier here for you." The principle tells me

"Well don't I don't need sympathy." I tell him as I start to get annoyed

Xander notices it and signs 'He was just trying to help.'

'I don't need help.' I sign back

'Auggie.'

'I'm serious! I don't want some stranger following me from class to class! It's like having a stalker! It's fucking weird!'

I turn back to Mr. Monkey Man (my principle) and he says "Well we do have two other suggestions..." as he hands Xander a pamphlet for something

"What is it?" I ask them all

'We either have to place you in an all deaf school or think about the Cochlear Implant...' Xander tells me

'So either I modify myself to meet their specifications or I just can't go to school here anymore?'

Eli's POV

"This is total bullshit!" I say

"I think we're done here." Xander tells the principle

"Just think about your options Mr. Moriarty. Think about what's best for your brother." The Dumb shit tells us

"And apparently you know what's best for Auggie?" I ask him as I start getting angry

"Do you think we could talk just us adults?" The principle asks us while eyeing Auggie who's glaring at him

Xander signs to Auggie asking if he can go out and wait for the twins who are gonna be coming soon. Auggie grabs his backpack and storms out while slaming the door behind him. "I think getting a Cochlear Implant would be best for August." Auggie's Principle states to Xander and I

"Oh? And why is that?" Xander asks him

"Well he could actually hear something. It would help him later on in life."

"No. You just don't want to go to the full extent you'd have to go if Auggie stayed here." I snap at him

 "Mr. Moriarty that is completely one hundred percent untrue and I am so sorry if you feel that is the reason."

"Shut the fuck up. Save your sorrow for someone who will honestly believe that."

"And you know what Mr. Wilson if you strongly believe that my younger brother should be taken out of your school then I guess that's what we should do then, because if he gets that Cochlear Implant he won't be hearing and he won't be deaf. He'll be right in the middle. He won't have a name to exactly what he is. So um, thank you for your suggestions, but we'll be leaving." Xander tells Mr. Wilson
