Article 14 – To be the Salt of the Earth

What should a Christian do when studying evolution or when made to teach evolution? Below is a short advice written to Christians who should not compromise and in fact, use the opportunity to witness.

Bible believing Christians face a lot of struggles and challenges to their faith and the biblical moral standard from the world today. The Bible teaches that things will not be better ((Dan 9:27 And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate).

Anti-theism beliefs are rampant all over, and is present, not only in the world, but also within the "catholic (universal church) as poisonous "doctrines of devils" (1Ti 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;). It is not safer within the church than in the world, especially when one might not be on guard as one is living in the world.

Nonetheless, God gives us a promise that it is He Who watches and guards (Psa 127:1 Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain). Also, greater is the Holy Ghost that is in the heart of the believers than Satan in the world (1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world). And God has given us a spirit of discernment (1 John 4:1-6).

For this reason, Christians need not fear the world, "for God hath not given us a spirit of fear; but of love, and of a sound mind"(2Ti 1:7) And we can bravely go into the world "as sheep in the midst of wolves" to fulfill the Lord Jesus's great commission of Matt 28:16-20 and to be the salt and light of the world (Matthew 5:13-16). If we hide in isolation from the world, we become the lit lamp put under a bushel.

The Lord will take care of His own (Psalm 16) and we trust Him.

For the various attacks made to the Word of God, it is the Bible believing Christian who must make a stand (see Jude 1:3; 1 Peter 3:15; 2 Corinthians 10:5; Psalm 95:16; Titus 1:9; Philippians 1:16; Ephesians 5:11). And to do so, the Christian must be equipped with the armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18) and know the Word of God very well.

Evolution has no place in the Bible. There are no millions of years in the creation of the world. Creation apologetics have shown that scientific facts only make sense when interpreted under the authority of the Scriptures. Truly the knowledge of God's Word is the source of all knowledge and understanding (Pro 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding). Science and all the disciplines of the world must be under the authority of the Bible to make sense and be fruitful.

Yet in this topic of evolution comes some very real applications. How can one survive amongst wolves as sheep (Matt 10:16) and be the salt and light of the world (Matt 5:13-16) when the ideas of atheistic evolution have crept into every single academic discipline and become present in almost all areas of technology and work?

One has to "be wise as serpents" (Matt 10:16) and really look at the situation. If one is taught evolution, one must listen attentively and be sober with discernment to test every spirit (1 John 4). In answering exams and reports, see the situation that examiners or exam itself is to test if you recall the knowledge taught, not whether one believes in what one is taught. If the question simply asks on the theory, answer the question as it asks. This can be done without compromise for there is no compromising in repeating what is mentioned. The exam paper or examiner neither cares nor is concerned if you believe in it. Nonetheless wisdom must be present. If it is research work in a project or assessment, one needs to ensure that the doctrines of devils are not edified and if so, distance from it. Being taught evolution in school to brainwash is a weapon of the devil, but the "wise as serpent" Christian can turn this into a witnessing event to explain to their other Christian and non-Christian friends why the theory is anti-biblical. While the non-believer may not be concerned, it is a great opportunity to explain why the theory is scientifically flawed and that the evidence actually supports the Bible.

In no way does a student need to foolishly disrupt the class and protest the teaching of the lie. We are to seek peace (Psalm 34:14) and submit to authority (Romans 13:1). The greatest He Who is in us will give us discernment. And when the time comes for discussion, one can put his point across the fallacies of interpreting scientific evidence in an atheistic evolution worldview (in meekness of 1 Peter 3:15). Arguments achieve little, especially with non-believers who have set in their hearts to be against the Scriptures.

Similarly, the educator can teach evolution with no compromise by pointing out the scientific fallacies of the theory. What better way to make a difference than to be the salt and the light of the world, and to show the problems of lies when teaching a theory. A Christian educator need not shun from the job of teaching evolution, for by doing so, gives way to atheistic educators. And the latter will teach the myth as a scientific fact, to propagate the lie to discredit the Bible. The Christian educator must in fact, teach the myth and point out the scientific fallacies of the myth. As an employed individual to teach whose mission is to teach and impart knowledge, there is no compromise in teaching the theory (to render unto Caesar of Matthew 12:17), but then to also point out the errors in the theory. In academia, it is a practice to challenge theories. This leaves the Christian student exposed to evolution not as a fact, but as a very fallible theory and plants seeds in the hearts of all open to alternatives to the origin of the world in the form of intelligent design in Creation. In pure academic honesty, the educator is doing his/her job to educate and as defender of the faith to keep the wolves away from corrupting the minds of the students. And if they are forbidden to disprove theories (which is no longer academic honesty by the regulatory board), there is a clear bias of the system, and God will either make another way to protect His flock, or one would then have to make a stand against serving God or Mammon (Matthew 6:24).

The Christian must defend the Truth of the Scriptures and be the light and salt of the world, but with the harmlessness of doves, and the wisdom of the serpent. What was meant by the anti-christian spirit of the world to keep all in spiritual death, can be a witnessing opportunity to keep "people alive" (Gen 50:20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive).
