The human world was forbidden for ocean dwellers, a law known throughout the seven seas yet to Thalia it was merely a rule that was made to broken. The young guppy was unable to stay away from the surface. It was almost if she was caught onto a Fishermans hook; unable to fight the imaginary rope that reeled her in, closer and closer to the land above. As Thalia explored the mystical ocean floor she couldn't help but notice shadows blocking the glimmering light from above. Each day that passed only caused her curiosity to grow stronger and stronger until she couldn't hold it in any longer. There was only so much ocean one could see before they craved to explore the land of legs and floating objects.

The first time Thalia broke through the surface was a moment she would never forget. Water fell from the sky yet it didn't taste like the salty waves that swayed against the wind. The land in the distance was vacant of human life, chirps of feathered creatures echoing harmoniously against the howling wind. Thalia couldn't help but smile as she reached a hand into the air, watching how her webbed fingers glimmered in the light. The surface world seemed peaceful compared to the waters she came to love. It lacked the violent caress of the sea that came with each wave and unearthly creature the ocean possessed.

The land above was like a drug to Thalia, she refused to let a day pass where she couldn't break the surface, only wanting to catch a glimpse of the land. As Thalia grew, the land did too - two legged creatures slowly began to populate the area. Many land-guppies and grown land-folk scattered the beach Thalia had claimed her own, speaking about foreign things in a magical language. They had gadgets and gizmos a plenty, laughing and rejoicing with one another regardless of the strange happenings that came from the greater ocean above the land. Thalia often watched the greater ocean, curious as to why the water that fell lacked salt and how the sea foam changed from luxurious white's to angry grey's. Yet the most magnificent part of the human world was the russet skinned boy who visited the ocean almost as often as she broke the surface. She watched him in awe each the hoping that one day he would finally notice her.

As Thalia aged, so did the boy. He grew into a handsome young man, the kind that in the dark days, would go on voyages to hunt her kind; in hope of finding mermaids that would shed tears of silver with the promise of everlasting life. The kind of men that forced merfolk into hiding. Thalia was well aware of the history merfolk had with land-dwellers, yet as she admired the boy as he grew she knew times had changed.

Alas as time went on, the boy slowly stopped visiting the beach and her hope of being noticed left with him.

________

Thalia floated on the surface of the soothing water, her periwinkle tail sparkling in the sunlight. The girls raven locks were a tangled mess with shells caught between the strands. Her pale skin shone with a heavenly glow, easily making her one of the gods most beautiful creatures. She watched from afar as a dark chariot approached the beach, it's weight crunching against the land. The young girl had become bored with the beach, the land didn't have the same appeal since her humans disappearance. Thalia however was as stubborn as seal and refused to give up hope in seeing him again.

So she watched as a large group of adolescent landfolk piled onto the beach preparing to battle the waves on what appeared to be large sculptured logs. Thalia became distracted as she wondered what the humans planned to do with the strange whosits. The young guppy didn't notice that they grew closer with every stroke of the water until it was too late. She ducked below the waters surface, the humans gliding closer and closer on their thingamabobs. Thalia darted towards the cliffside, a sigh of relief escaping the guppies lips - it was close, too close. She clambered onto the rocks, making sure to look out for the landfolk.

It was close, too close; she thought to herself, soaking up the sun.

Thalia liked to feel the heat on her skin, the water was always so cold - not that she felt it, being a mermaid and all. Yet something about the warmth felt comforting, as if it was where she was meant to be.

The sound of boisterous shouts broke her train of thought. It was time to move. Not that there was much time to move. A human appeared from above just as the guppy glided back into the water. They clashed together, Thalia's cool skin colliding with a sizzling heat causing her to jump back in surprise. This caused her to crash against the sharp rocks. Her durable mermaid skin had split open a rock was embedding itself into her shoulder from the force.

The male, Thalia realised, was in fact her human. The boy, stared in shock. Dark brown eyes met with seaweed green orbs. The creature before him barely gave him a moment to embrace her murky eyes as she sped off to safety. Thalia splashed her tail, salt water spraying the boy in the face snapping him out of his trance.

Embry Call had just imprinted, on what seemed to be a mermaid.
