Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Who's ready for shopping tonight?

I know I am!

I can't believe how EARLY stores are opening this year.

I mean, it's definately a lot easier to stay awake then go to bed and have to wake yourself up all over again, but seriously. 12:00?

Next year we're probably going to start even earlier!

Like, 11:00 on Thursday night!

Anyways, enough of my jibber jabber.

Finding Awenasa

Chapter 15

Part 1

*Maria's POV*

"You don't need to take me with you.  I can just stay here and help take care of Mrs. O'hara.  I can help Dalia and Belle with their chores!  I can make sure Molly and the twins stay out of trouble!" I argued.

"Yes," Joe countered, "but then I wouldn't be able to make sure you don't get into trouble."

I shot Cocheta a pleading glance.

She shrugged her shoulders in defeat.

"Joe, just let her stay here.  What with her arm still on the mend, she isn't exactly in the properly fit conditiong for traveling anyhow." Cocheta told him.

I gave her a thankful smile as Joe's shoulders sagged in relent.

"Fine.  Just make sure you stay out of trouble and do as you're told.  Cocheta and I will be gone for a month or at least a good, large portion of one.  I'll try to get back here before the first snow." Joe gave in.

My smile widened.

Joe heaved his pack onto his back and handed Cocheta's to her.

He walked over me and swallowed me up in a nearly bone crushing hug.

I hugged him back just as tight.

He placed a brotherly kiss on my brow before going back to stand next to Cocheta.

"Will we see each other again, Cocheta?" I inquired.

"Hmm...  I am unsure of that, Maria, young 'Áyat.  I do not know what the future holds in store for me." she responded wisely, after pondering for a bit.

(a/n: if you want to know what 'Áyat means, go back to chapter 5.  The first person to place the correct defintion in the comment of this chapter will get this chapter dedicated to them.)

I ran up and embraced her.

Cocheta had become like a sister to me in the past couple of weeks.

Cocheta pulled away from me, kissed me on the cheek, and she and Joe started to walk away.

I tugged my new white shawl tighter around me.

Peter had bought it for me at the market the other day.

The cold air seeped in trhough my clothes as I watched my brother and the woman I thought of as my sister faded in the distance.

I felt hot breath on my neck and spun around to see Peter poised to try and scare me.

I giggled and felt my smile come back, but only half heartedly.

"I get to stay." I muttered.

"You're going to miss them, aren't you?" Peter asked me.

"Of course I will.  I've never been more than a handful of miles away from Joe.  He's my big brother, my protector." I said.

"Let's go inside and sit by the fire." Peter suggested, shivering against the cold.

"Okay." I agreed.

We entered the house, holding hands the whole way.

*Joe's POV*

I snapped the reigns, urging the horses to go faster.

The O'hara house, and then the town after it, baecoming nothing but a small dot on the horizion.

Cocheta slept soundly in the back of the wagon.

The sound of her steady bereathing calmed me.

The sun was just starting to set and it cast splashes of res, yellow, orange, and gold into and across the sky.

There was a line of clouds back over the town.

They were fat and menacing; looking nothing so much as a storm in the making.

My stomach clenched and unclenched with concerned nerves as I thought of Maria.

Hopefully, the coulds would rain, and it wouldn't be cold enough for snow.

It was to early to snow anyways.

What was it now?

November?
