[65] ode to summer

the days are getting shorter and shorter;

i looked out the window just

not long after dinner, and already

the sky was that lovely shade of

indigo-cobalt-navy-blue.

there was a patch of lightning-bright sky

peeking out from beyond the shadowy clouds;

i could smell the sweet scent of

oncoming rain, even from inside the house.

it was better than any perfume, or cologne.

in the car i opened the skylight

and stretched my hand out. and felt

the wind pasing by through my fingers,

and wondered at the cars passing by,

and their unknown passengers.

in the car i opened the skylight

and stretched my hand out. and felt

the world passing by through my fingers,

above me, and all around me.

and i wondered what touching the sky would feel like.
