when we're laughing together

and when i look at you

i see your eyes shinning;

then you catch me looking

and grin sheepishly

because you were the butt of the joke;

and i can only

smile more widely

as though my face was breaking apart

from the force of the smile.

but it doesn't hurt -

especially when

your grin softens into

a real smile

and it's like

the sensation of being

in the ocean

submerged in blue and green and

water -

wrapped in silk -

surrounded by

starlight bubbles

and i come

awake.
