Chapter 33 (Marissa)

Six weeks Later *****

I didn't bother to look up from the card that I was currently decorating for Tabby's eighteenth birthday, as soon as he entered the room I knew that he was there.  His unique scent hit me hard and filled me with a warmth that pooled deep in my belly and spread like wild fire to my toes and fingertips alike.

"Did you get it?" I asked him.  I heard him shuffle his feet and walk in the room, closing the door behind him.  A grin kicked up at the corner of my lips, knowing what was coming next.

"Get what?" Zach asked sounding like the epitome of innocence personified.

I blew out a slow, deep steadying breath, stood up and took my sweet time turning around so that I was facing my mate.  My very gorgeous mate, that is, who was grinning back at me with that devilish expression that never failed to make me go  weak in the knees.

In the time since the Machto he had almost completely healed from all of his wounds with the exception of one small scar above his left brow.  I secretly hoped that he would keep that scar.   It would serve as a small reminder to what we almost lost.

He scared me that day when I saw him lying on the ground and Sergio standing above him, ready to deliver the death blow.  Thank the moon goddess that he found the strength and pulled through; he proved his worth and won my hand in return.  He already had my heart and my soul and now there were no questions as to whom I belonged to.  I belonged to the blue eyed Adonis that was at this very moment, eyeing me in the most indecent of ways.

Propping my hands on my hips, I did my best to scowl at him, "Don't play games with me Mister, you know exactly what you were supposed to pick up this afternoon."

He sauntered forth and placed his hands on my hips, not once pulling his eyes from mine, "Don't worry babe, I got it," he said and  leaned in to brush a kiss against my lips.  A jolt of heat instantly rushed through my veins, scorching hot like molten lava.

I leaned into him so that out bodies were pressed flush against each other and laid my palm over his chest where I felt the steady drum beat of his heart. I allowed myself a moment to just revel in the steady sound that soothed me like nothing else ever could.

Lifting my head so that I could peer into those mystical Sapphire eyes of his I finally asked him, "Where is it?"

It being a special necklace that I had spotted while we were still in New York.  It was a spectacular ruby set in a white, crescent moon pendant.  The moment that I saw it, I knew that it was the perfect gift for Tabby.  The lady was re-setting the stone while we were there and said it would be a week before it would be finished.  My dad said that he would ship it to me as soon as it was ready, especially for Tabby's birthday.

We received the call earlier today that it had arrived at the postal office and when Zach went out on his rounds to the pack houses as the Alpha customarily does, I had asked him to pick it up for me.
