Chapter Seventeen

They did eventually make it to the bench to sit for a while.

Kelly deciding that Danny wasn’t the only one who needed to rest his legs, as her own were feeling pretty shaky after what had just occurred between them.

She was still trying to get her head around it, that she had agreed to marry Danny, they were sitting on the bench and he was holding her hand, his fingers entwined with hers.

“Sorry I haven’t got you a ring yet, but it’s the first thing I plan on doing when I get out of here” he told her as he eyed her left hand ruefully

Kelly just laughed, “I don’t mind waiting, actually now I have come down out of the clouds again after your proposal, I am not sure what we are suppose to do next”

“Get married of course” Danny replied

“Yes, but how? where, and when?” she looked a little stricken. “You officially will have left the army after next week, and the following week you will probably have to go back to England, how can we make all the arrangements to get married inside a fortnight?” she eyed him worriedly.

“Simple, I won’t be going back to England quite so soon,” Danny replied easily, “ There is no law saying I have to be back by then, so I’ll stick around here for a while. I am sure my Sarge won’t mind putting me up for a few weeks, till we get ourselves sorted, especially if I ask him to be my best man, don‘t worry, I can be quite resourceful when I put my mind to it, so I will figure something out” he assured her with a grin

“I guess the quickest way would be in a registrars office” he then looked thoughtful, “Unless that is, you want the whole big white wedding in the church thing” he now eyed her questioningly, “So if that is what you want, I will be happy to go along with it” he then reassured solemnly, whilst gently her squeezing her hand

Kelly took a moment to think about it. But then she shook her head, “No, I don’t need that. I think I would prefer the registrars office. I don’t want a big fuss to be honest. I’ve had enough stress and strain these last few weeks without having to deal with that, and as you said, the registrar‘s office will be quicker”

Danny smiled, happy with her reply, then he leaned in towards her, “Have I told you how, much I love you?” he murmured near her ear

“A few times now,” Kelly giggled a little coyly, feeling silly that despite their familiarity with each other, he was still able to making her blush with pleasure ,

“Yeah, well its just good to be able to say it, instead of all that ‘lets just be friends’ stuff, it was driving me crazy underneath” he admitted now nuzzling into her neck

“I promise I won’t ever say that to you again,” Kelly assured him laughing, partly because he was tickling her neck, and now thinking how ridiculous the whole friends thing had been, “ Actually I think I would like, ‘lets be lovers’ instead now” she then suggested a little breathlessly, because his lips her neck was having more than just a tickling affect on her

“Good, that sounds so much better,” he replied in approval, moving up so he could gave her a lingering kiss on the lips.

But in the end she found herself reluctantly pulling away from him, and glancing around her, “C’mon we had better get you back to your bed, before the nurses end sending out a search party to look for you” she realised

“I guess so,” Danny sighed in agreement.

Then he let her help him back up on his feet, so they could return to the hospital building and his room.

Kelly was still on a high, as she travelled home by bus later that evening.

When Danny had returned to his room and the nurses had enquired where he had gotten to.
