A Hand to Hold
What is a father?
Is he an old man with less hair?
Who is a father?
Is he someone who cares?
That may be a father,
But mine is so much more
He has been there for me,
From the day I came through the door.
He taught me to crawl;
He taught me to walk.
My first words,
He taught me to talk.
From riding a bike,
To tying my laces,
He always let me win,
Each one of our races
And when I would frown,
He would cheer me right up.
He would bring me hot chocolate,
In my favorite cup
Always smiling,
He’d take my hand.
And teach me how to make,
Big castles of sand
Roller coasters, slides,
Concerts and singers
We’d done it all;
More than you could count on your fingers.
And when I turn around,
In times of need
He’d always be there,
Just waiting for me
So this is my father,
He is so much more.
A best friend, a guardian,
And a hand to hold
So thank you dad,
For everything that you do
No home is complete,
Without a father like you.
