Chapter 26- Willow, The Red Witch

Rain POV

It’s no secret; people often hide who they really are because they are afraid of revealing their true nature, or they don’t know how, like me I had no idea. Often this hiding-out is done on an unconscious level, because the corresponding fear-of-revealing evolved somewhere in early childhood, before we were able to make conscious decisions. Such fears are often buried so deeply that when they do reveal themselves to us (often in uncomfortable or challenging situations), it’s as if we’re helplessly watching ourselves in the reactive state, unable to intervene; unfortunately, what we see usually isn’t pretty.

Tonight in this dark forest I was watching a scene of myself that will come to haunt me for many years. Fate has played another cruel joke me.

Everything happened in a blur of movement and shadows. I was trapped in my own fear, I closed my eyes, stubbornly fighting and suppressing the panic that was stealing my breath. I could not focus but I felt the energy that blazed through my body. The air around me was heavy with a crackling electric currents, I could feel it leaving my hands and body. Pain searched through my flesh, burning me.

In the mist of my pain filled gazed I could see the creature’s red eyes getting closer, it took hold of my upper body pushed me hard against a tree bark behind me. I cried out more from the panic and my internal pain. I couldn’t fight my fear and this creature was ready to eat me. It snarled and exposed a mouth full of raze sharp teeth. The nightmare intensified. The pain and burning that was cascading through my very pores became too much and I knew I could do no more nor hold it back. Something snapped literally and I had a feeling of the pain and the fire leaving my body. Relief was quickly followed by astonishment as a strong smell of burning thickened the air. The creature in front of me let out an aberrant screeching sound. It let go of me and collapsed withering, thrashing sending plumes of blue misty smoke spiraling around.

I sat there struggled with my breathing, my thundering heart beating against my ribs. I was paralyzed with horror as the creature twitched and finally stilled. The image of the charred body was burned like brand into my mind overwhelming me. I felt bile rise in my throat and I stumbled away.

I looked around desperate, shivering and weak when I heard something else move. Every part of my body reacted to need to run, run fast.

But I was too scared to bring up any energy instead I quickly moved my battered sore body behind a tree and crouched down holding my breath. Please, please, please.

“Rain”

I heard the voice and some part of me even recognized it but my mind refused. I wanted to see no-one. I wanted everything to leave me alone.

“Rain, Rain, please come out, I won’t hurt you”

Noah. It was Noah, the voice but I still couldn’t find any energy to answer him and more than ever I wanted to be left alone.

I held myself even tighter in my ball and wished he would go away.

It was in this desperate position I was lifted by a strong warm body and held tightly with a blanket. My body only protested for a moment before it yield and my arms naturally wrapped themselves around the person’s neck for dear life.

I must have cried out because a deep trusting voice spoke.

“Shush Rain, I’ve got you, your with me, I’ll protect you”

The words left me feeling safe and my mind finally gave out to unconsciousness.

Lyke.
