The Breaking Point

I always sit in the corner. I watch him calmly knowing he has no clue that I watch over him. There is one thing that I am sure of. My old friends, the council of vampires, are still in the town. They are bidding their time. I don't know what has stopped me from spying on them even when I know I have the power.

Maybe, there is a small part of me that continues to respect them. I cannot afford to think like that anymore. Because it is not worth it and they are not worth my respect. They betrayed me centuries ago and they have returned to see it through.

My eyes shift to the bar counter. Kendall is seats there with music in his ears. I believe it is some electric genre that evolved recently. Lucy watches him from across the room. The two of them have not been talking for the past few weeks. She keeps giving him the awkward look thinking that no one is watching her.

Something is not right. I use my ability on her. I have mauled this over in my mind for the last few days, choosing to ignore my gut feeling. However, today, my gut is pushing me to do what I must. I take a deep breath and extend my mind to hers. I can feel every pulse in the room, every heartbeat, every single breath of a life form.

Every creature; even those of the super natural world, has their own unique pulse. I find Lucy's quite easily. It is laced with bitterness and worry about what she is. I weave my way into her mind. I know she is a witch and if I am right she has just been bound to her clan.

The poor girl's thoughts are all over the place. On one hand she is afraid of what she is while on the other she is more afraid of the strangers her grandfather had introduced to her. The images are as clear as day. The coven is working with my enemies. I could see Marco and Alexander clearly in her mind. Lucy escorted her grandfather, Luke, and a few other witches recently and had met them.

I center on the conversation between the coven leaders and the traitors. They met in a dark forest, not far from the edges of Silent Creek. I can hear the waters in her mind. She was afraid when the Marco, Alexander and a few vampires jumped out of the trees.

"We must do this immediately," Luke had said.

"We need more time," Alexander retorted.

"You creatures swore to give us peace," Luke snapped.

"We give you peace."

"One of you has been on a murdering spree," Luke said. "Phillipa, over there lost her son. We lost a member of our witch clan."

"You are witches, do something," Alexander said.

"What could we have done? She is powerful." Luke moved forward. He was sure to keep Lucy behind him.

"She is not all powerful Mr. Winchester," Alexander said.

"If our annals are right, she is the same creature that made us swear to keep that Brandon boy safe." Luke looked uncomfortable as he stared at the vampires. "Helping you goes against that oath."

"You don't worry, unless that witch can return from the dead, you are safe." Alexander moved towards Lucy. He used his power to force her to move forward. I know the smile that was on his face. He has something planned. "Besides…

Suddenly, a pressure forces me out of Lucy's mind as the old man stands in front of me, his eyes blazing with fire. "Never enter my grandchild's head again," he snarls. He lowers his face until it is level with mine. I can have his head off the rest of his body in an instant but I know that will look awkward. How many people today will look the other way of a lithe seventeen year old rips an old man's head off his body effortlessly. "Did you hear me monster?" Luke asks.

"What are you hiding?" I ask. Alexander was about to mention something important when Luke forced me out. I know he is expecting me to try and pry it from his mind so I do the subtle thing. "Tell me Winchester, what exactly did you not want me to learn from her thoughts?"
