A Reality Filled With Poems

My Hero

Usually it's the super villain of every story who uses
Mind control.
Usually it's the superhero of every story who
Saves the day.
But even though you say you've been my hero all my life
You use every chance you get to
Control me,
To tear me down.

"You need to be the best"  
"You can't stray from the path to success"
"You aren't good enough"
"I love you, but you could be better"

I tried my hardest, yet every attempt only had you screaming,
Telling me I need to be better.
Your yells hurt my chest more than my ears,
And I swear I've never cried so hard,
Not in my seventeen years.

Even a super villain couldn't hurt me as bad.
You're supposed to be my hero,
My dad,
The man who teaches and protects me

With every fibre in
His body.
But a villain would be kinder than you've ever been.
A villain wouldn't make my chest ache this
Badly.

If I burnt down your fortress of solitude,
Would you hate me?
If I took away everything you loved,
Would you forgive me?

A villain is the only one meant to use mind control,
So why do you need these powers?
Am I not good enough?
Why do I need to be the best?
How could you love me,
Yet try to change me?

I thought you were supposed to be my hero,
But where are you when I'm shaking,
Crying,
Struggling to get by and reach your expectations.

Where are you when you start screaming,
When you start putting me down
When you start ignoring me,
Acting like I'm Lex Luther rather than
The damsel in distress.

A villain is supposed to be the one who hurts you,
Who manipulates you into doing what he wants.
Makes you into a person you don't want to
Be.

So are you really the hero?
Or are you the villain in disguise?
And if you're the villain,
Then where's my hero?

Because if you're the villain,
And I'm the damsel,
Then there has to be a hero.
Unless I'm the
Hero.
