it was safe to say that lorelai gilmore could not do manual labour. she managed to fall of the ladder and cut her hand when she grabbed the rain gutter. how she did it, vee wasn't quite sure. she'd heard the yell and rushed out in time to see her mom hanging off of the roof. she grabbed the ladder and helped her down.

she made her swear she wouldn't try and do it again and instead get someone else to do it.

she agreed but milked the injury a bit longer. and she milked the injury to get luke downstairs to make them the good pancakes that ceaser couldn't.

---

after a lot of nagging from tori, lorelai agreed to let jess clean the rain gutters. she compromised and said she could call him tess for a little while to make her feel better.

"tell me something," lorelai started, watching her daughter carefully. "why is it so important to you that i like him?"

tori shrugged, "well, i just think that he's luke's nephew and we like luke and we eat at luke's every day and we see jess when we eat there every day and he's my friend. so, it might be nicer if you liked him."

"so, that's the only reason? luke and the diner."

"and the friend bit. we're not good friends but we're friends," she finished, shrugging again. "that both like reading."

---

tori was sitting across from her mom, on the phone, waiting for whatever her mom wanted to show the pair. anna was on the other end, waiting as well. the phone was up against the alarm clock. anna, who lorelai had met during the bracebridge dinner, found her absolutely fascinating, since her own mother was almost the opposite. anna had a lot of pressure on her, and her mom hated that she did theatre.

and then it hit 4 pm, and the clock oinked like a pig.

tori laughed moving to the kitchen to continue her phone call. anna was asking for boy advice. some guy in her calculus class had caught her eye and tori was waiting to find out who it was.

"nice alarm clock," anna complimented.

tori laughed, ignoring the knock on the door, "okay, spill everything."

"it's aaron."

"oh my god! no anna!"

"jess is here," rory called, leaving the pair alone.

tori popped her head out of the kitchen, "hi jess." she went back to the phone. "anna give me a second. i'll insult your abysmal taste in a minute."

"is that jess?" anna questioned, leaning forward in her chair from the other end.

"yes."

she smirked, "take your time."

tori rolled her eyes.
