the town hall was interesting to say the least. it had started an hour earlier and luke hadn't been told about it because they were discussing jess.

lorelai came to luke's defence. and tori thought it was completely ridiculous that they were discussing the boy like they would be able to kick him out of the town or take any action to help.

jess didn't need an angry mob. jess needed someone to believe in him and support him so that he realised he wasn't alone. but he also needed to realise that luke cared and was trying his best.

"can i just ask," tori spoke up as her family, mia and luke all left. "can you actually do anything about jess apart from make luke feel bad?"

"well-"

"like legally can you kick someone out the town?"

"i-i-" taylor stuttered.

she raised a brow, "so that's a no. so, instead of realising that looking after a kid is hard and that luke needs support not to be ostracised, you hold a secret meeting and rally the troops to storm the diner? sorry you lost like ten dollars taylor but seriously get over it."

tori followed the others out.

"what took you so long?" lorelai asked.

she shrugged, "i was telling taylor to quit being a baby and get over it."

"i've raised you well."

"yep. where's rory?"

"dean."

"ah. well, i'm going to get ahead on some homework."

"nerd."

tori rolled her eyes and began walking away, "yep."

tori was craving cookies, bumping into jess before she even went inside doose's. since the night before she had had time to think on everything that went down at the town meeting. sure, she'd defended luke and jess but she was still angry at the boy. he'd made life so much harder for luke when all the man wanted to do was look after him. she guessed it must suck to have your mom basically pawn you off on someone else and she understood why he acted out, but that was a reason not an excuse. he had to realise at some point that luke genuinely cared.

"should you be here all alone? i hear this is a dangerous corner," he greeted.

she folded her arms, "i'm fine."

"feeling succinct today?"

"pretty much."

"did i do something to offend?"

"me?"

"yeah."

"no."

"good."
