I immediately tensed up when Jax's gloved hand touched my head, not quite at my ear yet.

"Shh," he whispered. "You have to loosen up. Don't be so tight, your ears are folding. Relax."

I just couldn't trust him enough, which made me feel threatened. And when mice are threatened, they pull back their ears, protecting them in a defensive posture.

Jax noticed as I pulled away. A look flashed across his face—hurt? Why would he feel hurt? "(Y/n), I'm not a bad person."

Yes you are, I thought.

As if he could hear what I was thinking, he shook his head with a small, guilty grin on his face. "Okay, maybe I am. But my point's that I'll never hurt you."

He spread his arms, asking for a hug. For a moment, I just stared. I didn't know what to think.

Finally, I relented. I sank into his body as he rubbed the base of my ear. "Mousie, relax," I heard before a sharp pain bursted in my ear.

I yelped, pulling away from Jax before cradling my head. "What did you-"

"Nothing," he said. "I didn't even touch the ear part yet. You really need to relax, or this is going to be really bad for you." He held his arms out, beckoning me to come try again.

I took deep breaths, trying to calm myself before it happened. Third time's a charm.

Jax gently took my hands, looking straight into my eyes. "(Y/n)," he said. "I swear, as long as you relax, you'll be fine."

I nodded, tears coming to my eyes from the pain. I squeezed them shut as I grabbed Jax's hands, breathing out.

He brought me back into the hug, working on my left ear first. Experimentally, he touched the area around my ear, making sure I didn't flinch before he started on the real job.

Jax traced the base of my ear before using his thumbs to gently rub upwards along the edges. I let out a shaky breath as my heart thumped, scared and anxious.

I sensed a pain in my ear, making Jax stop as I tensed. "Relax," he whispered.

Deep breaths, (y/n). Pretend that this guy isn't a potential candidate for your boyfriend.

And I zoned out.

I don't remember much, but I do remember that when I got out of the trancelike state of pleasure, I couldn't think straight.

"Whoa," I muttered.

He smirked. "See, you just have to relax."

"Shut up. Don't I have to rub your ears now?"

Suddenly, he seemed very uncomfortable. "Uh... We can do that later, since you're tired?"

I nodded, as his reasoning seemed to make sense. "'Kay."

He gave me a small smirk, one that looked awfully nervous-as if he was trying to hide something. "I'll walk you back."

Pomni spotted me as I arrived at the table. "Hey, (y/n)!"

"Hey, Pom Pom!"

Jax cleared his throat. "I think I'll go now." And he sped off.

Pomni raised an eyebrow. "What's wrong with him? He's not acting as snobby."

"Nothing." It was the truth.

Pomni smiled. "I think you broke him."

"I didn't even do anything to him," I said. "He did touch my ears, though."
