The two sides were slowly becoming closer as the unprepared Sakura Empire fleet withdrew from the pursuing Royal Navy task force, the marines on the island slowly driving off the landing forces as they no longer were harassed by naval and air attacks.
"Get back here and fight!" Sydney yelled after her enemies as the girls responded in kind by firing torpedoes "Dammit!" She finished, having to focus on evading the attack along with Vampire as they spearheaded
Meanwhile, in the back, Adelaide and Irresistible advanced at the pre-dreadnought's maximum speed
"So, how does it feel to fight against your fellow Kan-sen?" Irresistible asked the light cruiser
"Weird... I-i don't really know." Adelaide answered as the battleship smiled
"We shouldn't be fighting... we all were created to fight the sirens, and even now they are still a threat..." Irresistible was mid-sentence when a 14cm shell fell right before her "But we still have to fight... for the crown and country!" She said, shooting a salvo from what would have been her fore-gun, leaving the aft one in case she needed it.
The pursuit continued as it became apparent the Sakura empire detachment was buying themselves time, waiting for their reinforcements while depleting the Royal Navy girl's ammo and energy.
"Will you please stop running?" Irresistible finally asked, "It is quite rude, you know what?" She remarked jokingly
"No, I don't think we should" Tenryu said back, her words making Irresistible let out a short laugh
"That's not how you treat older people." She said, clearly not taking the situation as seriously as others, the sound of fighting being occasionally interrupted by her remarks, as neither of the two Sakura Cruisers dared to approach or attack her
"Air!" Adelaide yelled as the pre-dreadnought turned her gaze into the sky, the planes bearing the marking of another carrier
"Soryu." Irresistible simply said as she slowed down, seeing the planes targetting her as Adelaide went right past her
"We should stay near to inc-" The light cruiser began speaking as she was interrupted
"No, they are aiming for me, if you stay close they may hit you... I'll survive a hit or more, you won't." The battleship said as it was now clear, that the situation was finally forcing her to be serious as she raised her eyes to the planes
"You shouldn't have been treating this so lightly," Soryu said in a calm voice as her planes closed in on the battleship
"Who said I wasn't?" Irresistible said as following her words dozens of 40mm Shells soared towards the sky, the "Pom-Poms" immediately not just shooting down but shredding aircraft as they did quick work of the light Sakuran carrier aircraft
"When did you-" Soryu asked, being taken off guard by the sudden barrage, stopping her attack so as to save the remaining aircraft, realizing she underestimated the enemy,
"What's wrong? You really thought a navy that proved the effectiveness of aircraft would not improve their AA?" Irresistible said with a smile as unsheathed a sword, one that was covered in rust as she sighed looking at it "But the Era of Battleships isn't over yet." Following her words, she fired her second main turret, the 12-inch shells aimed at Soryu as the smoke generated by her guns made it look as if she shot a full salvo
