The sky in its blanket of stars watched as the city lit up with fluorescent lights. Haseena walked to the receptionist and gave her name, with a bright smile pasted on her lips the receptionist asked to follow her. Haseena marvelled as she saw the receptionist hustling through the end of the day with the same smile.

Neeraj stood up extending his hand, as Haseena entered the room. Wishing each other, they sat in his lush office

"So," before Haseena completed, he added "Neeraj", smiling she continued "So, Neeraj, what do you think about the status of my file?"

"Impressive. I'll say you have a good chance at this. From how many years have you been working in the university?"

"Around 4 years"

"When do they make it permanent?"

"I don't know, I assume after 2 or 3 years. Or it can be soon if any of my work is accepted by the board"

"Okay, I suggest you get it done soon. I mean your chances are good, however, with a permanent job, your chances will be great"

"I don't think I understand you?"

"Let's be honest. The thing you are about to do is frowned upon in the society we are living and being a single woman, their sarcastic comments will test you" he sighed and continued "I want you to be prepared for their attacks"

Haseena spoke after a few minutes "I understand Neeraj. Thank you so much. I'll see what I can do. See you soon"

Taking his leave, Haseena walked back to the door, the receptionist smiling brightly, wishing her good evening. Amused by her patience Haseena left the office.

Haseena went through the book, the morning sun caressing her skin. The sea was coloured in an orange hue swaying beautifully to nature's music, the light breeze carrying the songs of the birds to the sailors.

"This is my favourite one" Haseena read aloud

"It was warm, the water.

Grey-green.

Like rippled silk.

With fish in it.

With the sky and trees in it.

And at night, the broken yellow moon in it."

"Beautiful," Karishma said "I love how you read it like you are seeing the grey-green waters yourself like you felt its touch, it's beautiful"

"The credit goes to the writer; she did a phenomenal job. She transforms the world around you and the best part is she makes it your story" Haseena sighed

"Well, let's share the credit between you and her, then all will be satisfied" Karishma continued before her courage gave away "Haseena I was hoping to ask you something. Would you like to have a bite? With me" Karishma sat fidgeting her legs, her anxious eyes searching Haseena's

"I have a class in the morning" Haseena pouted

"How about dinner? On Friday night" Karishma said quickly

"Friday?"

"Yes, we can talk about the new book I'm reading. Please say YES"

Thinking for a while she answered "Okay"

"Yes... Thank you so much" Karishma beamed "Can I have your number? I may need it when I come to pick you up," she said hurriedly, she had been talking to Haseena for the last 2 weeks and still her strict, rude police officer image shatters the moment she faces Haseena, leaving Karishma feeling like a lovesick teenager in front of her crush
