Sunlight streams into my room as I stir awake, a smile already stretching across my face. Today isn't just any day - it's my 17th birthday! And that means I can finally, legally perform magic whenever and wherever I please.

I dress quickly, buzzing with anticipation. Downstairs I find Mum already cooking up a special breakfast of pancakes and eggs.

"Happy birthday, darling!" she cries, hugging me tightly. I grin and summon the maple syrup to me rather than getting up, just because I can.

Mum laughs. "Excited about the Trace being lifted then?"

I nod eagerly, sipping the coffee that I levitated to myself. This is going to be fun!

The day passes happily. I find excuses to use magic constantly, reveling in this newfound freedom. Levitation spells, summoning charms, illumination enchantments - simple things become novel and thrilling again.

Anytime Mum or dad told me that I was using too much magic, I just beamed at them, redirecting the music from the radio to follow me outside. Sometimes, I conjure bubbles and make them dance through the air, feeling giddy with capability. No more pesky restrictions!

Dad watches on in amusement as I transfigure a mug into a small pool-like thing, fill it up with water, and relax in it. "Alright, alright. That's enough," Dad said, feigning exhaustion. "You're making us all look like Muggles."

"But it's so much fun!" I protested, twirling my wand between my fingers.

After a lot of Discussion, Mum and Dad had agreed that Ara and I will return to Hogwarts. I stare contemplatively out my bedroom window as dusk fell, absently fingering the delicate charms on the bracelet Dad gifted me for my birthday. It's my last evening before returning to Hogwarts, and I'm filled with a tangled mess of emotions.

A light rap on my door precedes Charlie slipping inside. He comes to lean against the window sill beside me, brow creased with concern.

"Hey there, Troublemaker. Worried about going back tomorrow?" he asks gently.

I offer him a small but genuine smile. "Not really. I'm actually looking forward to classes again."

At Charlie's knowing look, I sigh and amend. "Alright, maybe I'm a little anxious. But only because everything feels so uncertain right now. I'll feel better once I'm back in the familiar routines."
