07| Daydreaming

The Ivo mansion in Palmera City was not far from Victory Kord's own mansion on the beach. Not that it was surprising all the wealthy population of the city lived along the coast. All the homes were beautiful but they all also looked cold and empty.

When Jenny and Gemma stepped into the living room of the Ivo mansion they took a seat on the couch both feeling emotionally exhausted but for very different reasons.

"So that was the famous Jaime Reyes?" Jenny questioned a smile on her lips as she studied Gemma's reaction.

Gemma couldn't help but blush at just the mention on his name. She had told Jenny all about her high school crush never thinking that they would actually bump into him. It was so embarrassing. "Oh shut up."

"I can see why you liked him. He's cute." Jenny teased and Gemma couldn't help but smile a little.

Jaime was really cute. He had been cute in high school, but now he was was so much more attractive. And although she hadn't wanted to admit it to herself then, she couldn't deny it now.

It was like that crush on him that she had in high school suddenly was getting a pulse after she thought she had buried those feeling away.

"He is cute isn't he?" Gemma replied softly remembering the days where she would daydream about Jaime's nice hair and brown eyes. "I saw him and it was like I was 14 again and drawing little hearts around his name in class. But he didn't even remember me."

"Yeah that was not easy to watch." Jenny admitted and Gemma wished she could just up stairs to bed and hide.

"It was so embarrassing." Gemma said with a sigh as she ran her fingers through her hair. It was horrifying knowing that Jaime didn't even know that she existed, even after her face was all over most news medias.

"Well you didn't show it." She stated leaning back on the couch. And Gemma couldn't help but feel a little relieved because she thought that her infatuation must have been written all over her face. "You were very dismissive. Like you couldn't even be bothered to talk to him directly."

That wasn't what Gemma had wanted either. She didn't want to seem rude or arrogant, not that it really mattered.

"We'll I never have to see him again so it doesn't matter." Gemma muttered as she played with the hem of her dress. She wasn't a rude or arrogant person, at least she didn't think she was.

That was difficult to say considering that she had grown up with so many privileged. Maybe she was rude and arrogant and that was why she was so alone.

"I'm just saying if that's the way you acted in high school no wonder you two never talked." Jenny continued not knowing that she had caused a wave of emotions and self doubt in Gemma. "I mean your pretty, kind, super smart, and don't forget about rich."

Boys in school had wanted to get Gemma's attention, but it had always been for the wrong reasons. Never because they actually liked her, but always what being associated with her could offer them.

"How about we stop talking about Jaime?"

They both knew that they were only talking about Jaime Reyes to avoid talking about the real problem they had to discuss.

They're talk with Victoria Kord went exactly as the had expected even though it wasn't what they had hoped for. They wanted to believe that through a discussion they could help Victoria see that what she was doing was wrong. It was a little naive of them, but Gemma always wanted to give people the benefit of the doubt.

"Alright." Jenny said her expression becoming serious, though she seemed a little disappointed the change of subject. "I think we need to start by finding out what she was doing in Pago Island."

"You really think she found the Scarab?" Gemma questioned because only a day ago Jenny was certain that her aunt would never find it. That it had disappeared along with her father or that at the very least he had destroyed it.

"She was confident." Jenny said thoughtfully and she had clearly been thinking about it the entire car ride from her aunts house. "Too confident. Do you think you can hack into the system again and know for sure?"

Of course she could do it, she had already done it before. But Gemma couldn't deny that she was afraid of what they were going to find. Because if Victoria Kord had found the Scarab that only complicated things even more.

From what Jenny had told her the Scarab was incredibly powerful, who knew what Victora Kord would be capable with that kind of power. But Jenny had also said that not even her father had ever been able to unlock the powers of the Scarab. So maybe that meant that they still had time.

"Picked up some Big Belly Burger for you girls." Javier stated as he entered the room with multiple bags of Big Belly Burger in his arms. "Sorry Ms. Kord I don't know what you like. I should have asked."

"Don't worry about it Javier I'm not picky." Jenny stated as she pulled one of the paper bags to her and immediately began to eat the fries inside.

Gemma hadn't even realized that they hadn't eaten the whole day, not until she could smell the greasy food from the bag Javier placed in front of her. This was one of the many reasons why Gemma valued Javier so much, he always knew what she needed even before she did.

And although she trusted him, there was something about Victoria Kord that felt dangerous. She didn't want to tell Javier what was going on, it was better if he wasn't involved. But Gemma sensed that they would be able to handle what was happening in their own.

Especially if Victoria Kord unlocked the power of the Scarab.

A/N: Really feeling all the love that you all have for this story. It's already past 10k and I would have never thought so many of you would enjoy it. The next chapter is going to be a lot of fun and will include Jaime again. This was just a short little chapter but I hope you all enjoyed it.
